Helpful list members.
Thank you all for your advice. It is always good to know of your support
out there. It does make the building process much easier for me. I
should be one week away from sitting in the drivers seat and making
engine noises.
Best wishes,

I just thought when i discovered 3 angles in my kit that they expected me to
screw up on the first one i tried to bend.
I was so afraid of messing up at that point, that i left the wing tips to do
till the very end.
As it turned out, when i finally had to do it, it was really no big deal.
Sit down with yor angle and your crimping tool and with small crimps at
first, you will find it will form the curve very nicely.

I am trying to figure out how to hook up the cht and oil temp probes in the 912s.
How do you hook up a wire to the sender? I have the VDO instruments, and
I think the engine already has the probes installed. How do I connect them?
Thanks John B

Randy,
I notice in the Zenith oil cooler photo manual that they have two
separate inlets into the oil cooler. I assume the second one comes from
one of the Naca vents located on the underside. Did you give this
arrangement a try before resorting to moving the oil cooler up front?

I had to move my oil cooler up infront of the radiator to finally get
the oil temp in range, I think you'll save yourself some time to do the
same. N915RH, 601XL 60 hours.

Hooray!
This afternoon an airworthy certificate was issued for N701US
After 2+ years of building, this was a good reward.
FAA inspector was friendly, knowledgeable and finished his work in 1.5 hrs.
It took only 3 weeks for him to show after mailing my application.
I can now put my tools away and clean off the workbench.
But, will the thing fly? Will wait for a calm day tp find out.
Thanks to all on the list for the technical and emotional support that was
absolutely required to get to this stage.

Congrats We are all SOOOO envious!!
For the rest of us waiting patiently for that day, can you tell us what
happened during the inspection? Did you have to have panels open? Did you
start the engine Did you have to produce documentation? If so, what kind?
Is there anything you can tell the rest of us so we don't show up
unprepared?
In other words: what specifically did he look at?

Good job Jon!
I remember our trip in my 601 when you visited Corvallis. I hope your first
flight is completely uneventful!

I think I got one of the 'good' ones... a big promoter of the EAA, etc. He
spent about an hour looking over the plane, and about a half hour doing the
paperwork. That was all!
Keep in mind this was a first project of this magnitude for me, so I knew I
could be up for some problems... however: I got a free lesson in PROPER
safety wire fastening... (in a way that keeps pressure on the bolt head in
the tightening direction)... he found a bolt that I forgot to wire
alltogether; he explained how running a wire along a rubber fuel line could
be a hazard if there was a short circuit, and the battery posts should be
covered, and I should have green/red arcs on the oil pressure guage but
these were all suggestions that I could implement at my own disgression. He
gave plenty of complements on everything looking good and just made me feel
good.
I am convinced that my success in passing was that I looked at a lot of
photos of other planes on the web (from this list and on the Zac website)
and just followed basic construction practices. The only thing I changed
form the 'plans' was the use of more castle nuts over nylocs where moving
parts were involved. Absolutely no surprises in the paperwork side.. had a
simple builder's log containing my receipts and about 20 construction
photos. That was all! Got my repairman temp certificate and he pasted a
sticker in my new airframe logbook.
I simply used the EAA guidelines and sample docs to fill out my forms (see
the EAA builder's web pages) ....the only hitch to all of this was really
strange: I printed the forms from the website from the FAA (Adobe) and used
these in my application... the inspector told me that I had to refill them
out on the official forms he brought with him (double sided, not stapled
together like I did). Hey, no problem.
All in all, I was not expecting things going so smoothly.. I hope this
eliminates some of the fears I had entering this stage... beleive me, this
plane will win no awards due to my less than sophisticated construction
abilities... so my real concern will be the first flight, and I'll keep you
posted on how that goes!

I am thinking it may be a good idea to have some carb heat on the 912s. What appears to be a simple solution is the carb insert at the following address: http://www.skydrive.co.uk/sd_ch.htm
I would appreciate any comments, or suggestions. I think rotax has a reputaton
of not requiring any, but I have heard of some anecdotal comments by other owners
of possible carb icing.
