Dear List,
After 3 years of building my 701 is just about ready to fly.  Is there anyone out there who could give me a couple of hours of dual Instruction on a 701 preferably with a 912 or 912S engine?  I regularly fly into New York, Boston, Baltimore, Chicago and LAX, so someone near to one of these cities would be ideal.  I've got loads of flight time on jets but very little on light aircraft in the last few years.
 
As always any help or advice appreciated.

I have seen this engine at an anternative engine seminar just three weeks ago and it is quite a beauty. I believe the one they had with them has a few hundred hours on it in a Kit Fox. They are going (at least it is what they say) into production later this fall. It is a direct drive. They have a tbo right now of 1200 hours I believe but feel it will climb to 2,400 hours. For those not needing an engine for another few months or a year I believe this will be a great option. Just an opinion and I am not a mechanic. One thing that I have questions about is that they offer a speed increase that pushes the cruise speed past the original CH701 Vne speed. I haven't asked Zenith about this issue yet as I am not building wings yet. I have also held off, becasue they advertise their wings are a retro-fit, so I can add them later if I wanted to. I remember reading somewhere about pressure-sensitive slats can be unpredicitable when landing in gusty winds. The reaction of the slats to the gusts, plus the slow flight of landing could cause for some adventures. With no experience in this area, I am still trying to gather information about these wings and the CH701 setup. I was researching Rotary engines for a while... still am interested, but not even building yet.... anyway, for what it's worth, you might want to check out these guys...

Max take off power:  78kw or 105hp
Dry weight: 55.3kg or 122 pounds....  this includes reduction gear, but not radiator, exhaust, electric, etc.
Max eng. rpm is 7500, cruise 7100.  These engines are flying in the uk (they're certified there)...  But good luck getting a response from the company.  I've sent several emails, with no reply.  If anyone knows the installed weight and or the cost of these engines, I sure would like to know.

However; I still can't find any mention of what RPM the power is rated at. Our non-TSO'd instruments, some from China, work fine 3 years after installa= tion.  Since we plan no IFR or night flight non-TSO seems a better eco= nomic choice with little or no downside.

We did the vacuum as you are considering.  Given our real use of the a= ircraft I would seriously consider going all electric next time.  The=20= vacuum lines and a 15 gallon header tank make for a very tight fit and many=20= extra hours of building time.

For that matter, have you checked your oil to see if you have antifreeze in it, or you radiator fluid for oil?
