Just a guess, but if you bought the 912 UL version...S or otherwise, it would
not include a manifold, airbox, etc. Those items are for the certified
version as I undsrstand it...that it the F series, I think...for even more
$$....perhaps you have the manual for that engine...

Very clever way to measure the tailplane angle! I like it. Please keep us

I share your concern about elongated holes. Solutions I'm considering:
1) what you propose - drill out mount plate and rivet in a new one, 2)
double the top section of the existing mount plate and rivet it to the
existing mount plate, 3) drill the new hole in the existing plate (3.5mm
higher) and use a steel washer with bent tab (kindof like on a bicycle
wheel) to "fill" the old hold and prevent the bolt from going up and
down.
I favor the 2nd option. I don't like drilling out critical rivets and
redoing them. It's impossible to avoid making the holes slightly larger
(i.e. elongated). So I'm likely going to take the doubling approach.

I see ZAC has posted a Sample POH for the 601XL, prepared by Czech Air Works, in
the Builders Updates section of their web page.
Unless I am misreading it, it indicates a Max. Takeoff Weight of 992 lb., as opposed
to the ZAC published gross weight of 1300 lb (with a Rotax 912 ULS). CAW
empty weight is 595 lb. V. ZACs of 700 lb. Maybe the sample has omitted the
engine or something.
Hopefully this is not a real number, part of ensuring this is only a Sample. If
it is, I may have to look for another project, or convert this one into a single-seater.
Any thoughts?

The manual downloaded was for the 912ULS. That's where I got the info about
what is supposed to be included. Aviation is really a wallet-emptying
enterprise....is it worth it?

Can't be right...I fly an HDS plated at 1200lbs...I regularly fly at close
to 1300lb (because several planes have come out "heavy" and ZAC has aloowed
the higher weight.
I can tell you it flys like a pregnant duck at this weight but it will fly
and the stall speed is not too high.
You will be fine following ZAC's numbers.

Our POH is designed for the European UL rules so the figures match the
regulations, not the real design parameters. And our XL is lighter as we
use composite gear. As you are in the experimental class, you can use
the numbers published by Zenith.

manifold, however I did order a manual for the 912f...and it did have those items
included.
Is avaition worth it??!!...well, that depends on who you talk to and what
you are comparing it to...sort of relative, I think. No doubt, it is expensive,
but least costly when you build your own, and maintain your own. ...
