Re the power and range from a handheld with a permanently mounted outside
antenna, I think you will find it will be very adequate. I have a
non-electric cub with an Icom handheld and bent wire external antenna. I
can talk 50 miles or more with the internal batteries. The antenna is more
of a factor than the battery.
      Good luck

There will be continued pressure to restrict flying rights of light aircraft ...
especially if some crazy actually uses one in an
attack. Regulating small aircraft is so VISIBLE and makes good press for politicians.

Meanwhile no one is about to address the preferred VEHICLE OF MASS DESTRUCTION,
      favoured
      by terroritsts from
Oklahoma to Bagdad -- the pickup truck.

      Greg:

I'm buying parts from WW for my 601XL. I get answers/parts in "spurts."
They have sent me everything I ordered, but sometimes it takes a while. I
had to remind them of one thing I ordered and they sent it right after that.
I always pay with Paypal so that makes it easy to keep a record also.

All of the WW products have been excellent so far. I also got the manual
and all three videos, which help. Are you close to assembling your engine?

Maybe the next time a car bomb is used to kill innocent people, such as in
Oklahoma City, they ought to ban all automobiles! Detroit would love that !
Then when someone releases saran gas in the NY subway, maybe they should
close down the entire system forever! And you know what? The terrorists
will sit back and laugh, knowing that they have won! Maybe someone should
inform the American people that all these chemical and biological weapons
are dreamed up and manufactured in Ft Detrick. MD, the US military bio
warfare laboratories. Then maybe the UN should inspect these labs, and
order the US to destroy them! (I wonder why they hate us so much?!!!!!!!)

It never ceases to amaze me how our buffoons in government react to certain
criminal acts, scaring and penalizing the population in order to achieve
their own objectives. Through their own actions, they bing on the
terrorist acts which they say they want to prevent! And this guarantees a
never-ending "war on terrorism" , at huge profit to the special interests
      that run our government.

As a former sports car driver I can speak first hand against using foam in
your tanks, unless your going to change it every year... without fail. I
and other drivers using professionally manufactured fuel cells and bladders
have run into fuel starvation problems due to clogged outlets or filters as
the foam breaks off small particles and they accumulate at the outlet port.
The cells are great for the application they were designed for, crash
impacts with deformation to the tank structure, but the foam will always
decompose due to friction, vibration, chemicals or whatever. On the amateur
sports car club racing circuit we ran 30 minute races with another hour or
two in practice and qualifying and about 10 races a year. So you do the
math before you put the foam in your tank. One other thing, most of the
      fuel boxes were steel.

Anyone interested in building fuel tanks should
consider using foam inside them. This has been used
      for years in auto racing.

I had a great 3.2 hour trip to 4 airports today. At second stop,
Morristown, TN a lady commercial pilot came up to the airplane and
said, "that's a Zodiac, isn't it? I just flew in the XL two days ago
in Mexico with Roger." She went on to say she saw 160 mph in level
      flight.

I may have to start work on my second Zodie!
