Dear Listers,
A few Listers have asked me recently, "What's my Contribution used for?",
and that's a valid question. Here are just a few examples of what your
direct List support enables... It provides for the expensive,
business-class, high-speed Internet connection used on the List, insuring
maximum performance and minimal contention when accessing List
services. It pays for the regular system hardware and software upgrades
enabling the highest performance possible for services such as the Archive
Search Engine and List Browser. It pays for 15+ years worth of on line
archive data available for instant random access. And, it offsets the many
hours spent writing, developing, and maintaining the custom applications
that power this List Service such as the List Browse, Search Engine, and
Photoshare.
But most importantly, your List Contribution enables a forum where you and
your peers can communicate freely in an environment that is free from
moderation, censorship, advertising, commercialism, SPAM, and computer
viruses. How many places on the Internet can you make all those statements
about these days? I will venture to say - next to none...
It is YOUR CONTRIBUTION that directly enables these many desirable aspects
of this most valuable List service. Please support it today with your List
Contribution. Its the best investment you can make in your Sport - BAR NONE!

160 mph in level flight in a 601? She may have been in Mexico MO, but with
respect to that claim, I'm FROM Missouri! :)

I had a great 3.2 hour trip to 4 airports today. At second stop,
Morristown, TN a lady commercial pilot came up to the airplane and
said, "that's a Zodiac, isn't it? I just flew in the XL two days ago
in Mexico with Roger." She went on to say she saw 160 mph in level
flight.

As I recall a couple days ago upper air winds at 5000 were 270 at 57 knots
in Wisconsin. She didn't indicate a reciprocal course speed. :O)

Last night while I was making airline reservations, the agent told me that
when in flight over areas near Washington D. C. (or other areas perhaps) you
can't leave your seat or even standup. If you do, the airplane is turned
around and you are arrested. Yes, the restrictions are growing.

Chuck,
I normally dont make political comments in an aviation list (or any
list in internet).
But for me, it looks that the terrorists are winning step by step, the
war against the USA the way they planned: without a single weapon.
Seems that they dont need a single bullet to destroy the USA famous
peace and freedom, at the end will be no democracy, rules will not
alowd it, like the German SS...
Hope your country's leaders reacts and open their eyes.
Off the soap box, no more comments, I said only this comment because
we all believe that the USA attitude also affects directly all the
countries in the world.
Saludos
Gary Gower.

When she said "I saw 160 mph. This means she saw an indication of 160 mph on
the airspeed indicator. She said in level flight. I'm from Missouri too.
Lots of people say lots of things ---- doesn't make it so. The factory
demonstrators simply will not produce 160 mph in level flight with two
aboard. Tom Marson

Me again and back on topic.
There was at least one 601HD on the show. It was yellow and had a 3 bladed prop
with a chrome spinner. No tail number or 'experimental' tag. It had black
accents and no wheel pants. The mufflers were the fang type.
Interesting note - If you use TV W&B, you can strap 2 kegs on the back of the fuse
and still hope to fly.
Does anyone know about this plane?
Regards,
Kevin Kinney
P.S. Pregnant wives hate it when you spend over 15 minutes going frame by frame
through a video. Make a note of that.

Then they showed about a 1/2 second clip of what seems to be a yellow Zenith
601.
