Dear Listers,
Well, its November 30th and that means three things...
1) Today I am officially 40 years old (sympathy is appreciated)!
2) It marks that last "official" day of the List Fund Raiser!
3) Its the last day I will be bugging everyone for a whole year! :-)
If you use the Lists and enjoy the content and the no-advertising, no-spam,
and no-censorship way in which they're run, please make a Contribution
today to support their continued operation and upkeep. Your $20 or $30

A Lister wrote a funny message in the comments field of his Contribution
today that I thought summed up the whole situation:

Gary,
Maybe the weather stripping is similar to the 3-M leading edge material? I wonder
how it could be applied so that 1) there's no chance of it being forced up
into the gap and causing problems, and 2) it allows for movement of the ailerons
without a fold of loose material flapping when in level flight?
Apparently the RV's have a gap cover. Anybody know how they do it? Seems like
it ought to improve performance significantly.

Is this typical for a CH701 with a 912S?
According to Zeniths web site (www.zenithair.com/stolch701/7-perf.html),
single seat performance with the 80 hp 912 should yield a 1600 FPM climb.
I realize this wouldn't be the first time a designer inflated some
performance numbers, but this seems a bit extreme as the 912S should have
an extra 20 hp to work with.
I realize that Bruce's first take offs may be at something less than Vy
(or even Vx), but I am wondering if typical "in the field" performance of
a 701 matchs what Zenith publishes for stall speed, rate of climb and
take-off roll
