Hi list,
I've been struggling with the fresh air vent concepts
and have made several NACA duct types.
Just don't like the idea of putting a hole in the side
skins and subsequent plumbing in that area.
Has anyone used a vent like the Cessna leading edge
air vent system from the center wing into the cabin?
Are there better ideas out there for the 601?

Larrry: I guess a hole is a hole but my old ercoupe had a 2" hole right in the
front of the cowling which could be connected to the heat box in the summer. I
guess it would work but I never used it because it was easier to just open the
windows and fly.

" '21 items' to finish" That sure has a nice ring to it :)
From the images I've seen on your website, she'll be a beauty!
I was looking at that center-section leading edge for a vent area too.
The vents and ducts could all be stashed away in otherwise wasted space.
I finally decided to go with the naca's just 'cause I like the looks of
them.
I *did* come up with one of those "better ideas" that you asked about.
Living in a desert, I was more worried about ventilation on the ground
than in flight. I came up with a couple of very compact NACA vents with
some hi-volume "Tornado" muffin fans integral with the ducting. They are
enough to get a little breeze blowin on ya while sitting under that
bubble on the ground.
I'll post a couple of pics.

Hi listers,
I am about to install vents for fresh air in my 601. I was at Aircraft
Spruce this weekend and gave the helpful salesman the catalog number for
their plastic NACA scoop with a screw adjustment for fine tuning the air
flow.
He said they did not hold up and he wouldn't advise my getting one. While
I appreciate his advise I am left to locate an adjustable NACA scoop/vent
that will last as long as I hope to fly the plane. I think I have seen a
picture of an aluminum one on someone's 601 here on the list. Anyone know
where to get a durable adjustable vent or how to make one? Would appreciate
it.

P S: I was fortunate enough to get about an hour and a half flight time in
a Zenith CH2000 Alaris with CFII Phil Polstra who built and flew an
ill-fated 601 until recently. We are really in for a treat. I was VERY
impressed with the stability of the Alaris and its handling. He has flown
both for hundreds of hours, he says the 601 is even more fun than the Alaris
which is more of a trainer and weighs about 400 pounds more than the 601. I
can't wait to get my own 601 flying now!

I have the setup from Van's. It includes the plastic NACA scoop, eyeball
vent and tubing. So far it has worked great for me.
