I want to avoid the low oil pressure switch as advocated by aeroelectric. Some are using the alternator to masterswitch. Is this a good idea? I ended up placing the Hobbs in the alternator switch circuit so that if the engine is not running, the red light comes on (alternator) so as to notify me that the Hobbs is still running. A good compromise, IMO. I can email a diagram if anybody needs it. The switch I used came from the UK and operates at approx. 30mph. I suggest you check on the legality of doing this in your country too...(airframe hours Vs engine run hours) ... I can look up further info and send images if this is of interest. I purchased a ARM-127 from my Honda dealer for my outboard to track hours. Nifty gadget that weighs nothing and uses a small sensor strapped to a spark plug wire. Shows total hours or rpm. If there's spark it adds time, no spark - no time. I couldn't find a price on the web site, how much are they?" Fred, I paid $55.00 from the Honda Dealer a year ago. Please note, the sensor wire is not "field adjustable" but company makes them in lengths from 12" to 240" (that should cover your needs!) so mounting anywhere should not be a problem. Can't find it anywhere in my set or on the Zenith builder support site, but I have found pictures of it. It shows RPM (which indicates wrong on my 912S installation) and total hours. Unfortunately does not show fractions of hours which renders the hour meter function almost useless for me. ________________________________ Message 9 _____________________________________ Time: 06:19:00 PM PST US From: "Dave Pepper" Subject: RE: Zenith-List: hobbs meter --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Dave Pepper" Speaking of 912 tach wiring, I'm a little confused. The 2-strokes only have one grey wire to connect. However, the 912S has two tach wires wired into its connector. I'm using the Stratomaster EMS 2 engine information system. This EIS only has one tach input for one tach wire. Am I to construe that the other wire is a ground? If a ground, which conductor is the ground? Why don't the Rotax 2-strokes have a ground wire in their tach wiring? Thanks.....Dave ________________________________ Message 10 ____________________________________ Time: 06:45:16 PM PST US From: Rick Pitcher Subject: Re: Zenith-List: Final inspection scheduled for Dec 17th --> Zenith-List message posted by: Rick Pitcher Al Young wrote: > --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Al Young" > > Congrats Rick- Hope you make it on the 17th, but hope also that you have a > safe first flight, no matter if it doesn't come til Feb 17th. I'll get with the EAA flight advisors in the next week or two and see what they have to say. I might even get one of the local test-pilot guys to take her up for first flight. If I don't get to fly it 'till February, that'll be alright. I'm just happy to have the plane all assembled and sitting in the hangar. :) http://www.lightflyers.com/newhome.jpg http://www.lightflyers.com/roadtrip.jpg Rick P. ________________________________ Message 11 ____________________________________ Time: 06:58:39 PM PST US From: "David & Maria Lumgair" Subject: Re: Zenith-List: hobbs meter --> Zenith-List message posted by: "David & Maria Lumgair" Check out tiny tach -- Put one on a friends plane and it works like a charm - Same hookup as the Honda version - only $37 and it's resetable when you replace the motor or overhaul by removing the face and shorting two terminals underneath. Works well. Dave ----- Original Message ----- From: "Stephen Titus" Subject: RE: Zenith-List: hobbs meter > --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Stephen Titus" > > > "Neat gadjet to know about. Should cure it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Frank Jones" Subject: RE: Zenith-List: hobbs meter > --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Frank Jones" > > The Tiny tach (see aircraft spruce) uses the same spark plug wire rap > method.
