Now that's cool. That R-R Merlin was the sweetest sounding engine to ever take wing. To be compared to that is just about the ultimate. All I could imagine before was what a bike sounds like from the ground. Larry K Santa has my list... And the Zenith AC price list that goes with it.

--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Dave Alberti" <daberti@execpc.com> Actually it is probably a mute point. With a restrictor in the broken line you get a atomized spray of hot oil, like you get in a jet engine, and with the rotax that occurs at the front of the engine so you get to spray the hot exhaust and muffler system. Without it you get a stream about .200" in diameter which atomizes in the airstream and sprays the exhaust and muffler system. Either way you risk the flame thrower scenario. At best, a great deal of smoke and severe pucker factor to the posterior regions. The NTSB report said the fitting broke. I believe is was a non AN fitting and had a long moment arm also as contributing factors. Easy to do when stacking two sensors. --> Zenith-List message posted by: Gary Liming <gary@liming.org> Isn't this due to not using a restrictor fitting where the oil pressure line comes from the engine to the switch/pressure gauge? > Zenith-List message posted by: "Dave Alberti" <daberti@execpc.com> > >The NTSB files list a rotax powered Zenith that crashed as a direct result >of the added oil pressure switch. --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Jarek M. Walter" <jarek.walter@sympatico.ca> Hi Guys, I want to express my appretiation for all advices some of you guys gave me with regard to buying 6061 aluminum. Today it arrived from one of the wonderful suppliers recommended by our list member from the west coast of Canada. O boy, I was so relieved when I saw the mill certificates, all stamps etc. for the stuff. And the biggest advantage - the prices (16 sheets of 0.020x48x122 for 442 US, 3 sheets of 0.025x48x144 for 103 US, main landing gear 0.075x3.5x84 for 52.90 US etc.). Comparing the 27.63 US for the 0.020 sheet to 371.00 CAD I was asked to pay for the same thing at local aviation supplier or 78.50 US at Aircraft Spruce catalogue, can give you monetary value of my appreciation for these extremaly valuable advices you gave me. Probably I will be asking for more advices when I start building sometime after New Year. Anyway, thank you very, very much. Regards to all, Jarek CH701 Do not archive

Rely on the dealer you purchased your engine for advise on the thread type and you'll be just fine. Fred do not archive

I mounted an eyeball vent to get more controll of directional air & also another way to shut it off by turning it's ring. The push/pull knob is for the cabin heat. I got the plans for this on the Zenith site. --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Carl Bertrand" <cgbrt@mondenet.com> Hi Frank. Noticed your post about Tiny Tach being erratic. Friend of mine had the same problem on a 912 and asked me to check it out on my 701/912. I had the same problem. I experimented and found that enclosing the pickup wire wrapped around the plug wire with aluminium foil made the tach behave and was within 5 RPM of my EIS. I wrapped the pickup around the plug wire about half way between the plug and the coil then added two layers of aluminium foil over the bundle held by two tie wraps. Worked like a charm for me. It shows RPM (which indicates wrong on my 912S installation)

What are the drawbacks of using this size instead of what is in the plans? Can we do this? I am still in the planning stages of building and I have already made it a rule that I am not going to try to improve/change any of Chris Heintz's design whithout approval from Zenith. Did you get approval for this? BTW I did not see any of the messages from other builders that you speak of. Did they perhaps email you directly? Kevin
