Good Morning...
For those who have implemented the no banana slot flaperon hinge, where
did you source your self-centering flange bearing from? What is the
preference for # of bolts, 2 or 4?
Thanx...

Congratulations Rick. I guess it is time to kick the

Spruce has them. Also any good bearing store in town will have them or get
them overnight. They are cheap and definately the way to go. As for the number
of bolts, two is more then enough. All the bearing does is stabilize the end
loads. The four flaperon brackets on the wing carry most of the loading. I
really believe the weak point is the splice between the inner and outer flaperons.
I will look for a part number of the bearings and post them. Gary Liming has a
great article on this and now that I think about it he might even have the
list of parts on there too. Let me know of ya need some close up pics of how
this works.

Hi Scott,
They are bearings made by Triangle Mfg. I used the 3/4 inch nylon version,
available from Aircraft Spruce, #FMN12, 93 cents each, pg 141 in current
catalog. The bearing flange provides for a 2 bolt attachment.

Just about forgot, a page about this technique is at

that has some photos of this bearing in place.

Fellow Builders:
I recently happened upon a photo of a manual flap lever in the 601XL here:
http://www.zenair.com/zodiac/xl/images/Flap-lever.jpg
I was not aware that Zenith was looking at manual flaps for the XL. Do any
of you guys with new plans have this option in your plans? This may be
still in the evaluation stages, but I sure would like this over the electric
flaps if it works. My plans were purchased in February of this year ('03).
Thank you,

Hello, Scott
The picture looks familiar (i.e., old). Maybe it was an early (prototype) design?

Is anyone that is using the Coretc primer having a problem similar to mine?
It seems that upon application (using a brush) that the wet coating beads up
and leaves a less than uniform coating on the aluminum. Using a brush to
redistribute when still wet doesnt seem to help much. I have tried different
degrees of thinning and cant seem to improve the situation.
What is your experience using this product?

Thanks for all the replies. The link was from the other Zenith web site
(the 640 site). I have been studying my drawings and I may try to design a
flap handle similar to this:
http://home-l3.tiscali.nl/~driessen2/dcp00468.jpg
Location will be an issue with the center yoke, but I think I can work
around that. I'll post the modifications on my web site when I get to that
point.

Make sure you clean the parts with acetone or lacquer thinner before
applying the primer. It sounds like the surface may not be clean.

As a new builder of a CH 701, I had the same problem applying Cortec with an
ordinary paint brush. I changed to a foam rubber "brush" and got much better
results-a thinner and more even application. The foam rubber "brush" was also
easier to clean and much cheaper than a paint brush.
Give it a try.

I had the inspection scheduled for the 6th originally, but some new
hangar space came up out of the blue and I had to grab it or miss out.
The move set me back a few days, but the wait was worth it. <g>
I haven't been current in years so it'll be a month or two before I'm
ready to fly her. I'll get together with a couple of the EAA flight
advisors after the holidays and discuss what I'll need to do.
I've been working on it 4 or 5 days a week for a year, right now I'm
still getting used to the idea that it's done. :)

I am looking for a new prop for testing. I need something smaller
around 60 or 62 in. ground adjustable. I want to turn more RPM on the
motor than is safe to do with the big prop. I also need the Rotax bolt
pattern. Anybody have one for sale?
