First, I would like to thank everyone who helped me
with the battery installation and especially Larry who
actually answered my inquiry.
A few people asked me for more information on my
distributor conversion... so here it is, I updated my
web site with details of the conversion process for
the Hitachi/Mitsubishi distributor. I already had
details for the Nippodenso/GM setup.
So, enjoy!
And I wish a happy new year to everyone!
Michel

Subject: | XL/Subaru Combination HOPEFUL |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: hafiske@earthlink.net
I am trying to figure out if a Subaru powered XL will work for me. So I need to
find some weight at the wheels in a tricycle set up.
I fly in the mountains (Rockies) so I need all the help I can get. And I am flying
on a special issuance medical so I have to look forward to the LSA/SP that
hopefully coming soon. As an experimental I don't think I'd have a problem
with a Sub4 or EA81 Turbo and a partial IFR panel (many black holes in this country
at night)
In the future, with a prop changed to a fixed pitch, could I get a couple of 200#
guys and 24 gal of fuel and stay under the proposed 1232# gross limit of the
LSA/SP
So if you know what the weight at the wheels are with which engine and accessories
it would sure help in my planning and figuring out a tentative weight and
balance for my project
Thanks
Herb

Hi Herb,
Please take note that under LSA/SP that you'll not be able to fly at
night...

Hello Roy
I've been wanting to ask one of you 701/Vair guys about the weight issue.
The Corvair will probably be over the 200# max stated by ZAC. Are you
planning on dumping the starter and maybe going with the big bore kit (less
weight more horses)? I am planning an XL/Vair myself but, would like to
take advantage of the short field capabilities and new bubble doors (I'm a
photographer) of the 701. Maybe I'll just have to build two!

I wrote Chris a letter about 3 mo ago ( he's alergic to email I think) concerning
the fact that several 701s with 0-200s are flying which will be the same weight
as the Corvair, and several with Subarus which are heavier. his reply was
to build the airframe as per the plans and put the Corvair in it, no airframe
mods. You still have to respect the gross weight. so whatever payload you have
left you have to live with, I just CAN'T put out $10K of hard earned money
for a small engine thats turning almost 6000 rpm to get the power. All you Rotax
guys calm down, the engine has a very good record it's just my choice ,
this is my 4th airplane and I like doing things a little different.. Alum
cyls are also an option but the fellow that LN Engineering has chosen to help
with Corvair development says it's a year off. Ive got another engine so maybe
I'll build up two. LOW&SLOW John Bolding
