--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Lowell Metz" <lowellmetz@earthlink.net> Jarek, It is very hard to comment on an engine without looking at the specs and a drawing. Torque/ HP curves, weight, etc. I went to the sites you listed and didn't find any technical stuff. Well worth looking into further though. While in Italy and France last summer I saw the Mercedes Smart car and have since learned that its engine is starting to become a popular conversion in Europe. The sky is the limit but sometimes initial costs plus development costs on experimenting end up being more than the costs of a known aviation powerplant. Companies have the technical and financial resources to do a lot of developing that most of us lack. On the other hand great innovations come from some of the most unusual of places from the most common of people. ( Not calling you common in any derogatory sense ). You may be onto something here as there are a lot of aviators that want a good 4 stroke turning that fan. Lowell Metz 701 in FL. Do not archive ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jarek M. --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Jarek M. Walter" <jarek.walter@sympatico.ca> A lot of people fly with Rotax 582 in spite of fact that it was used on snowmobiles first. For 2003 Bombardier replaced 582 with the new 2-TEC SDI. In the 800 2-TEC SDI, a CPU monitors the ambient temperature, altitude, engine temperature, throttle position and RMP. It automatically adjust to offer the best performance and efficiency possible. A knock sensor works with the computerized system to retatr the engine timing or enrich the fuel mixture, if detonation is detected. The entire system works without a chocke for easy starting in all temperatures and weather conditions. Since 582 was (and still is) popular choice, does this mean that new 2-TEC SDI is a modern equivalent of 582 to use in EA? Bombardier is in a process of certification of new aircraft engines - V220 and V300T. They use auto gas. It looks to me, that soon we will be able to catch up with modern engine development in our light aviation field and say good-bye to 30-years old certified engine technology. Jarek M. --> Zenith-List message posted by: Gig <wr.giacona@cox-internet.com> Welcome to the list. Don't let the visibility issue sway you from the 601XL. I was amazed at the view during my demo flight. That big canopy will give you plenty to look at and a low wing is really better in the pattern. The 601XL is certainly better for the x-country. That's an off the shelf Electromotive system that it looks like Jeff has made a custom pickup to fit the lycoming/continental. Just my opinion, but it seems like a all around better system. His web page is not pretty, but if you give him a call I think you will agree that he really knows what he is doing. Subject: Re: ZAC Lycoming engine mount / magneto
--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Jim Frisby" <marslander@hotmail.com> I'm building a CH801, with a Lycoming 320 (conical mount). I got the ZAC mount, and, while well-constructed, and fitting both the firewall and the engine nicely, it did not accomodate my existing magneto on the left side. I later found that the mount was designed for engines with slick mags, and my engine had the larger Bendix-Scintilla mags. To solve the problem, I moved my impulse Bendix mag over to the right side, and got an "Electroair" ignition system from Jeff Rose. I have yet to run the engine, but the Electroair ignition was very easy to install and time, and it's signal unit fits easily in the left magneto hole. --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Brett Ray" <brett@hog-air.com> I say go for it. Part of the fun is experimenting. Of course I used the Harly motor in mine. And I had alot of people say it won't work or you can't etc. etc. It flys great by the way. Belive me you can ask as many people as you want but you won't know for sure untill (YOU) try. Buy the way we are now getting a big break on the Harley motors we get so I am passing the savings on. Complete motor ready to fly $7400. What do you guys think?
