ZAC does supply a motor mount and cowling for the 0-235. They will also
recommend a wood prop, the one they used on an earlier prototype of the XL.
There is also an option in the supplied prints for installing the battery
near the tail for W&B. This is an approved option for the XL and the staff
has been very supportive when I have discussed the installation with them.

Thanks all. They came with the Wing Locker kit which I bought at the
same time as the light kit and they got mixed together. But aren't shown
on the plans and I had lost the inventory sheet for that subassembly.
Zenith does make an pretty big assumption that kit builders know how to
install fasteners like DZUS and for that matter nut plates.

Hi list.
Just an update on activities. I feel I have passed a
major milestone. After doing all the drilling for the
XL outboard and center spar sections, I know that I am
at least halfway there - insofar as the pile of
aluminum shavings and twirlies and filings goes.
Slowest holes I have ever drilled and the weight of
that shaving stuff has to be at least equal to all the
rest of all the other aircraft shaving stuff output
put together - so it's got to be cause to celebrate.
Right? Now to rivet all that stuff! Have an excellent
day.

They are part of the Dzus fasteners. See page 101 of Aircarft Spruce current Cat.
They are used in the wing lockers for the XL.

I know someone on the list put an aluminum spring

Don't count out the older zodie models because of the

For the rudder you need 1/8" clecos. These are the copper colored ones, fifty should
be plenty for just the rudder. You may need some 5/32" (black) clecos also,
25 should be good to start. Eventually you will neet about 200 1/8" clecoes
and about 100 5/32" clecos.
The cheapest place I've found for Clecos is U. S. Industrial Tools in Plymouth,
MI.
http://www.ustool.com/ or Call 888-4-USTOOL
They have them as monthly specials for thirty cents each.

You are also going to need some 3/32 (silver) cleocs when you get to the canopy.
I found 25 was plenty. You don't need these for the rudder though.

As a preference I pre-drill everything with #40 so I use alot of 3/32
clecos. #40 drills usually take much less pressure and time to cut and are
less apt to "walk" on you. It is very easy to go back and open the holes
with the correct size. It might just be in my mind but I believe it leaves
less of a bur also. An added bonus is that after everything is pre-drilled
and clecoed you can re-check for warp and have a chance to correct before
opening up the holes (saved me some money on the stabilizer).
Just my two cents.

Anyone have plans for a flaperon control hinge for the 701 (instead of

Does anyone on the list have these drawings that they could scan and

I agree,
I did a lot of 3/32 predrilling and fully support the approach below. I
think it was pretty rare to just drill a hole wiithout pilot drilling first.

Hi Leo,
I run into the exact same issue late fall: engine started to run very rough
just after take-off (got me a little bit scared...). In the following engine
test runs I had several mag problems - they came and went - and also
probelms starting the engine. I suspected the ingnition system and started
checking from the spark plugs back, but haven't found the problem yet (too
much traveling lately - no time for the plane). First thing I will to on
Saturday is to check the red wire. Thanks a lot for your post.

For aircraft tires, the first number is the tread width in inches and the second
number is the wheel diameter in inches. For most newer automitive tires, (ie.
185/60-14) the first number is the tread width in mm, the second number is the
aspect ratio (tire thickness divided by tread width) and the last number is
the wheel diameter in inches. Usually you will see a letter between the second
and third numbers, R for radial, B for bias ply, etc. A letter before the first
number indicates the application: P for passenger car, LT for light truck,
T for trailer, etc. At least that's the way it is here in the U.S.

I did the same with the 3/32 cleco's and I agree with Ken about less burring and
a chance to make adjustments prior to drilling out to the final size. I think
I purchased 500 1/8" and 300 5/32". I purchased most of them from Avery tools
at the local fly-ins.

In my previous post on this subject, replace the words "tread width" with "section
width". The width and aspect ratios of tires are actually based on the overall
inflated width of the tire not the tread width.
