Hi mike,
The fuse is sized according to the wire. You'll find a table to equate
fuses to wire sizes in many places ... try searching online? or an
electrical company catalogue.... or the aeroelectric book/website....
You'll find more guidance on wiring your airplane in the Aeroelectric book.
I followed his guidelines but, in retrospect I find his ideas a little
complex for what is essentially a simple aircraft (the 601 and 701)...
If I was doing it again, I'd probably only use 16 or 18 guage wires for
everything except those items that need a larger gauge. That would add very
littel weight, yet simplify purchasing, planning, fusing, etc, etc.. imo.

--> Zenith-List message posted by: Andrew SanClemente <ansancle@townisp.com>
Thanks to all for comments regarding the Throttle setup (Larry, great
web site with many useful photos).
New question, Ive had to change my gascolator location due to the
radiator. The only new locations I can find would place the
gascolator a few millimetres higher than the outlet from my fuel
selector. I understand liquid doesn't care how many millimetres it
is, it will flow to the lowest point.
Tony Bingelis mentions that its sometimes is not possible to have the
gascolator in the lowest point, but as long as you have drains in the
tanks (I have wing tanks) its OK. So my question is, can I get away
with the wing drains, and a gascolator that is only slightly higher
than the fuel selector? Seems that the wing drains should get the
water out of the system thats introduced in the tanks, anyways,
interested in the groups thoughts.
THanks

We are using two throttle controls in our CH601HD Zodiac with Rotax 912-S
engine of the type described by George Swinford in yesterday's
Zenith-List. They have been very satisfactory to date. We obtained them
out of two (crashed) C-172s, complete with friction locks. I like them
simply because I am used to them from Cessna flying. Of course, in normal
flying, we simply back off the friction setting on the right-hand throttle
control. Both controls are easily accessible from either seat.

Hmm personally I would not do that.
What I did was to mount the gascolator Just in front of the wing spar with
the drain poking thru the floor, which ends up just behind the radiator
under the fuse.
I then welded up a 3/4" piece of steel tube about 4" long to a little square
plate. I rivetted this plate to the floor in front of the gascolator. Now
you have the tube sticking straight up.
I shaped the top of this tube so that the fuel valve sat on top of the
tube....With a little bracket so that I could tie wrap the valve to the top
of the tube.
Using another bracket rivetted to the floor (between the valve and firewall)
I keep all my downstream pipework above the level of the gascolator.
Sounds hokey but it's a very neat installation.
Frank

I used the 2 cable control knob system also and took the little plastic friction
maker out of the right side so the passenger could not adjust it. A work of
warning: keep the cables as straight as possible or too much friction will build
up in the s-bends. I have a couple of pictures on pg. one of my site. (Don't
all look at once)

Mark: That was quite a while ago but I remember clamping the whole mess togther
and then drilling a #30 in the center hole clecoed and continued to drill the
rest. Then I drilled all the holes out to the whatever size required for the
rivet or bolt. Make sure you have the 3/16 rudder bolt in place between the 2
plates when you clamp the whole mess together or they may not line up. Jack

Fellow XL builders (and possibly HD builders?),
Reference assembly manual 6B-1 page 7, bottom photo. Quote "Refer to 6B2-4
for the layout of rivets through 6B1-6.
I've studied the plans for awhile now and just want to make sure I'm getting
it. Plans 6B2-4 (Lower Rudder Hinge - Top) shows two AN3-5A bolts on the
outside, one center hole for the tie down ring (5/16th's) and an A5 rivet in
between the bolts and tie down ring. When positioning 6B1-6 for the Rear HT
Frame, did you just drill a #40 pilot hole for all of these into 6B1-6,
taking in account the needed edge distances? After that did you back drill
through the End Skin 6B1-3?
In the assembly manual 6B2-2 page 2, it talks about back drilling the Lower
Rudder Hinge through 6B1-3.
So, there's only 5 holes in 6B1-6 and the placement really is as shown in
6B2-4, right?
Thanks for any help.

Solved my own problem, pulled the fuel selector (for the 3rd time -
ARGGG!) and made a new mount that is high enough to allow downward
flow to gascolator.

After lots of thought and research and sleepless nights on the fuel system, I am
running the lines uphill from the tank to a center left right both valve then
downhill to the gascolator in the floor then uphill a short distance to the
electric pump and continuing uphill to the engine pump. This way I have no low
spots in the lines which can't be drained. Done!
