The baggage floor side rivets are next to impossible to drill and rivet because of the upper longeron is so close. Any ideas on how to get the holes drilled? Thought about drilling the holes that I can reach, clecoing them, removing the floor and the side brackets and finishing the job. My worry is whether I can get the whole assembly back in the fuselage if I follow this idea. Would appreciate any comments from other XL builders. I positioned the whole assembly into the fuselage (no- it wasn't an easy task), then that allowed me to drill through the supports from outside the plane, rather than try to fit my drill between the longerons. To get a good line, I drilled three holes from the iside where my drill could reach then simply "connected the dots" I then just positioned the cross braces into the predrilled holes, and clecoed them down. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Al Young" Subject: Zenith-List: 601XL Baggage floor > --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Al Young" > > Need some ideas. You can get the attachment at U. S. Industrial Tools. It came in handy many times. http://www.ustool.com/usstore.asp?WCI=wciViewItem&WCE=91652s Bryan Martin > --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Al Young" > > Need some ideas. I've not riveted the side skins. What I've done so far is to drill and cleco the angles to the side skins, then remove and pilot drill the horizontal surface of the angles. I cleco the angles back in place and can mark through the pilot holes to locate the position of the angles on the underside of the baggage floor. These can then the used to drill the angles to the baggage floor off the airplane. Install the transverse stiffeners at the same time since you'll want the stiffeners to intersect with one of the holes in the angles. To reassemble, reinstall the angles to the side skins. Install the baggage floor, then the stiffeners, and cleco the angles to the baggage floor. Once you've done that, you can pull the clecoes from the side skins and peel the side skins back, drop the baggage floor down enough to fit a hand riveter in under the longeron and pull the rivets for the angles and stiffeners. Slide the baggage floor back up into place and cleco to the side skins again. I've still got a bit more to do since I haven't drilled to the seat back or to bulkhead three since I'm installing a four point harness and have some extra work to do at the back of the baggage shelf.
