Tommy:
A picture would be a big help. Can you send me one off-line, or post it to
the Matronix "Photo share?"
If it is in the inside flange, you may be OK.

Subject: Zenith-List: Unplanned hole in 601 skin
--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Tommy Clark" <tclark955@charter.net>
Hi group,
My name is Tommy Clark, I've just started a 601XL. While working the
elevator, I was trying to "tweak" the flange on the elevator skin with a
smooth pair of pliers, and pulled a hole in the skin, approximately 1/8-3/16
"L" shaped tear in the flange, near the bend. What should I do? Is my skin
trashed or is it an issue? I would appreciate any input from you guys that
has been there.
Thanks for your input,
Tommy Clark

Question on the Air Box for Jab 3300 with 601HDS. The air filter
looks to be 1/2" smaller ID than it should be to fit the circular
indentation in the air box cover. Anybody run into the same issue? It
just doesn't look right. Is there a slightly larger filter out there that
fits a little better? Thanks everyone.

The only way you can "flush" adequately is to disassemble.

Hello All:
I was wondering if anyone knows of a flying 601 HD or HDS with a corvair engine?
I would like to talk to the owner and get some specifics. I can be reached

Drilling thru the internal spar cap is required by the design of the stick option.
Take a look at the design drawing of the internal spar itself. There are 42 holes
in it to begin with.
Do you have that drawing?
I can not believe you would have made the "no-no" statement if you had looked at
this in the context of the ZAC drawings.

Thanks everyone for your helpful information on the
fuel selector valves. No decisions made as yet but at
least I have a few other options to look at. Does
anyone have any issues or see any problems with that
J.C. Whitney fuel selector suggested earlier by Larry?

Tommy
I wouldn't panic over it although I'm not sure I understand where the tear
is.
I had a fold up trailer that I was moving around the garage. It decided to
unfold as my back was turned and you can guess that it didn't just fall on
the floor. I turned around just in time to see it bounce several times off
my
elevator. I felt that my elevator was going to need to be re-skinned, but
ZAC said it would be possible to remove the dented portion and replace with
the same thickness metal. Of course at a slight appearance penalty.
You may be able to stop drill the tear and put a patch over it. Call ZAC and
see what they have to say about it.

Greetings listers, Has anybody e mailed Matco and ask them if disassembly is
neccesary? I yearly mityvac hand pump the dual 4 piston calipers on my Harley
as an assistant keeps the reservoir topped off . When I am finished running
1/2 a can of silicone brake fluid through the system I take the bike for a ride
with some heavy braking and I flush it one more time. The fluid on the last
flush is as clean as you could ask for. My best guess for problems with this on
the airplane is their a compatability problem between the two fluids that
would require a complete disassembaly of the entire system. Also, if your going
to
go that far, why not replace the internal components anyhow? A final note,
what do you clean the lines with that will not leave a residue that would
contaminate the new fluid?

The only 601 I have heard of that claims to be flying behind a Corvair is Dave
Norman with a XL. He has only listed a mailing address.
http://www.experimental-aviation.com/Directory.asp?m=detail&id=383842247 I don't know anything about his performance. I guess you could write him. If you do, there are a bunch of us that would like to know what he has to say
about it.
