The complete Zenith-List FAQ including these Usage Guidelines can be found at the following URL: http://www.matronics.com/FAQs/Zenith-List.FAQ.html Thank you, Matt Dralle Matronics Email List Administrator ****************************************************************************** Zenith-List Usage Guidelines ****************************************************************************** The following details the official Usage Guidelines for the Zenith-List. You are encouraged to read it carefully, and to abide by the rules therein. Failure to use the Zenith-List in the manner described below may result in the removal of the subscribers from the List. Zenith-List Policy Statement The purpose of the Zenith-List is to provide a forum of discussion for things related to this particular discussion group. The List's goals are to serve as an information resource to its members; to deliver high-quality content; to provide moral support; to foster camaraderie among its members; and to support safe operation. Reaching these goals requires the participation and cooperation of each and every member of the List. To this end, the following guidelines have been established: - Please keep all posts related to the List at some level. Do not submit posts concerning computer viruses, urban legends, random humor, long lost buddies' phone numbers, etc. etc. - THINK carefully before you write. Ask yourself if your post will be relevant to everyone. If you have to wonder about that, DON'T send it. - Remember that your post will be included for posterity in an archive that is growing in size at an extraordinary rate. Try to be concise and terse in your posts. Avoid overly wordy and lengthy posts and responses. - Keep your signature brief. Please include your name, email address, aircraft type/tail number, and geographic location. A short line about where you are in the building process is also nice. Avoid bulky signatures with character graphics; they consume unnecessary space in the archive. - DON'T post requests to the List for information when that info is easily obtainable from other widely available sources. Consult the web page or FAQ first. - If you want to respond to a post, DO keep the "Subject:" line of your response the same as that of the original post. This makes it easy to find threads in the archive. - When responding, NEVER quote the *entire* original post in your response. DO use lines from the original post to help "tune in" the reader to the topic at hand, but be selective. The impact that quoting the entire original post has on the size of the archive can not be overstated! - When the poster asks you to respond to him/her personally, DO NOT then go ahead and reply to the List. Be aware that clicking the "reply" button on your mail package does not necessarily send your response to the original poster. You might have to actively address your response with the original poster's email address. - DO NOT use the List to respond to a post unless you have something to add that is relevant and has a broad appeal. "Way to go!", "I agree", and "Congratulations" are all responses that are better sent to the original poster directly, rather than to the List at large. - When responding to others' posts, avoid the feeling that you need to comment on every last point in their posts, unless you can truly contribute something valuable. - Feel free to disagree with other viewpoints, BUT keep your tone polite and respectful. Don't make snide comments, personally attack other listers, or take the moral high ground on an obviously controversial issue. This will only cause a pointless debate that will hurt feelings, waste bandwidth and resolve nothing. ------- [This is an automated posting.] ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 05:37:29 AM PST US From: Andrew SanClemente Subject: Zenith-List: Stratus EA-81 Questions --> Zenith-List message posted by: Andrew SanClemente Hi, some basic questions for those of you with the stratus ea-81. Ive searched the archives and not found any answers so usual apology if this is old ground (also tried calling Stratus three times this week - no answer). 1. Where do you get the reading for the tachometer? I didn't see anything obvious. 2. Is there a threaded hole for CHT sensor (didn't see any) or do you need to use a gasket type under a spark plug? The CHT sensors from the EIS are installed under the spark plugs. But many people claim it is useless to measure CHT with a water cooled engine. Having the EIS, I connected the sensors anyway. For the tach, I attached the wire to the negative lead of the coil and as per the EIS instruction, I installed a resistance between the EIS and that connection. Having two ignitions, I purchased a MSD-8911 tach splitter that will be installed next week (I removed the relay I was using). I'm learning that nothing is obvious in electrical stuff, The tachometer depends upon what type you use. I purchased a Mitchell VDO type that uses a signal from a wire wrapped around one spark plug lead. Mine is still finicky after it reaches 2000 rpm, but with adjustments it'll be o.k. I also have an EIS which reads RPM, but I feel one must have a Tach Gage present that doesn't need the press of a button to see it. Cylinder head temps can be had by using a screw-in temp plug into the dead-end threaded holes in the head or a spark-plug type. I used the spark plug type, but am told they don't have a good mortality rate due to being attached and detached to check plugs etc. Take care Andrew, Larry McFarland - 601HDS ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 06:20:33 AM PST US From: "gary" Subject: Re: Zenith-List: Stratus EA-81 Questions --> Zenith-List message posted by: "gary" > 1. I could net believe how giddy I felt taxiing around the airport. A couple of more months and She'll be ready to fly. Amazing how much different the engine sounds with the prop on. For you Stratus guys out there, I know it can be subjective, but is there any consensus on a pitch for the prop? At least an "this is a good number to start with." I pitched mine to 14 degrees and she moved along just fine. Anyway, it was a great day... I attached my aircraft at the rear fuse tie-down ring. And push to full throttle. Yesterday, I got 4600 rpm with 13 degrees of pitch. Oil is mineral single viscosity (30) for engine break in. My friend (mentor) would like to see 4700 or 4800 rpm to use more of the engine power on takeoff. We'll see what we get when we change oil and tune exhaust. Gary's right pick up your chts on the back of the head 10mmx125. In other words, remove the plug's sealing washer, put on the sensor ring, put washer back on. Sensor rings are rather soft alloy and might not seal well; a burn through would be remotely possible. The above method has the sensor supported nicely. ________________________________ Message 10 ____________________________________ Time: 07:59:04 PM PST US From: "j.breit" Subject: Zenith-List: Zenith in Seattle --> Zenith-List message posted by: "j.breit" I've just finished building a CH601HDS and I'm looking for someone in the area that I could fly with in an HD, HDS or XL in preparation for first flight in my airplane. Would be glad to pay gas money just for a little right seat experience.
