    |July 24, 2002) at05/03/2004 07:44:42 AM --> Zenith-List message posted by: caspainhower@aep.com I recently ordered the new heated pitot tube for the Dynon, I will be ordering the rest of the system in the next month or so. I have been looking at the Stratomaster Ultra "X" for engine monitoring and backup ASI, VSI and Alt. Just wondering if anyone else is using or has experience with the Stratomaster? Craig S. N601XS, 601XL 0-235 lyc, wings and tail done, fusilage coming together. >Also planning to use an efis system from http://www.dynonavionics.com . 2 grand, and all those features, how cool? >They are working on a neat engine monitor, but that may be just a little too much. Cant wait to start building. Subject: Lycoming Fuel Injection lines
--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Bruce Schmidt" <bschmidt613@charter.net> Hi, I have an IO-360 lycoming. On the fuel injector there are 3 fuel lines. One on the side (larger) for fuel IN. One on top (smaller) which I think goes to the fuel distributor on top of the engine. The third (small) is on the side near the fuel IN. Is this a fuel return line? On my last airplane (with this engine) I had NO return line and had a fuel pressure transducer hooked there. Anyway, I did manage to fly from California to Georgia WITHOUT ever having a fuel return line which seems to be something that most people want for fuel injection. (I had a high pressure aux electric pump and bypass valve only used for starting and landing). PS I've searched, looking for pictures with instructions and haven't found any . --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Rick Morawski" <morawski@highway1.com.au> I have a Stratomaster Ultra as my primary instument and love it. Not everyone likes the digital type but it suits me fine. Good points are- Ease of installation -one wire from firewall to instrument.(apart from power & pitot/static) Ease of instrument scan - Its all right there in front, and beeps if anything goes wrong. Upgradeable software - when new stuff comes out you can download new software. Flight Log for last 250 or so flights built in. More stuff built in than I would have in discrete instruments Points to reckon with- Liquid crystal display goes black if you leave it parked in full sun on a hot day. Easy remedy is cover your cockpit. Cant think of anything else I dont like about it. Rick Morawski morawski@highway1.com.au > ordering the rest of the system in the next month or so. --> Zenith-List message posted by: "HINDE,FRANK (HP-Corvallis,ex1)" <frank.hinde@hp.com> I'm sorry but the high incidence of valve guide failure and the failure of Mykal to take responsibility for the issue and to find a Proper fix for the problem is unacceptable to me. The first time the motor drops a guide and you get the sickening shudder from the torque reversal thru the airframe I will guarantee your attitude towards nervouseness will change! The belt drive is OK but it's a bit of a pain to live with. I believe the consensus is a gear drive is a better solution and that's why Eggenfelner went that way after messing with belts for a few years. The Stratus also relies upon the original feeble ND ignition system. Ram has better solutions for two out of the three issues for sure and the gear drive is probably superior but there aren't many flying yet. For me knowing Ron's capabilities I would work thru him to provide some mounts to turn the offset the other way. Sure the cowling will need adjustment probably but the ZAC cowl won't fit the Stratus hardly anyway so the additional modification is small potatoes for a much better package IMHO. Frank 322 hours I think both are good engines, plenty of Stratus' flying for many years, probably the most proven and reliable EA-81 package there is. Simple is good and cheaper.

Also when I applied for registration I sent copies of the invoice. The FAA replied that was unacceptable and insists on a bill of sale. How does this work? I don't have one. Doug Mattson 601XL

    From: "Lance Gingell" <lgingell@matrix-logic.com>
--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Lance Gingell" <lgingell@matrix-logic.com> When I got my 601XL tail kit from Zenith, the included elevator trim indicator was the Ray Allen RP2 - the needle indicator. I know that the demo XL has the RP3 LED indicator. (http://www.rayallencompany.com/products/indsens.html) What have other folks got in their kits? RP2 or RP3 (LED). Anyone flying these? Which would you recommend? I personally think I like the RP3 LED indicator best, and I was going to ask ZAC or Ray Allen if I could swap out my sealed up RP2. Any thoughts appreciated. ..lance N601LG Rudder + Tail complete. Wings on order (still), Fuse kit on order. San Rafael, CA

--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Lance Gingell" <lgingell@matrix-logic.com> I bought a hand riveter from Harbor Freight this weeked...for $6.99! I tried the custom heads from the pnematic riveter that I bought from ZAC on it, and they fitted perfectly. A bargain for those hard to reach places. I tried it out...just to see what 'quiet' manual riveting was like...well, all I can say is that I pity anyone trying to build an airplane with a manual riveter! Cheers. ..lance N601LG Rudder + Tail complete. Wings on order (still), Fuse kit on order. San Rafael, CA

--> Zenith-List message posted by: xl <xl@prosody.org> I wore out 2 hand riveters on my 601XL. I like the feeling. I built it with my own hand! Actually I had to stand on the riveter to pull the A6SS rivets in the brake hinges - nearly broke the tool. Joe N633Z @ AWO 19.8 hours! P.S. I took 633Z joy-flying for the first time today. No data recording, just getting the feel of it (at gross weight with 240# of sandbags). The site picture and handling are significantly different with the extra weight. And it doesn't slow down as fast after touchdown. The clouds kept me within site of AWO. I flew around at 2500 feet scouting airfields.
