Total cost was about USD30. The hi beam is landing, the lo beam is taxi. Not a new idea. Bob Nucholls promotes this route for many very good reasons, not the least of which is the cost of "authentic" aircraft sealed beam lamps. Using the mounting bracket in the plans as my guide I fabricated suitable mounts and two riblets (one for each wing w/opposite flanges). The installation isn't that difficult. If you are working on your wings you already have developed the skills required. The cutout in the LE skin is the same as on the plans except the width is adjusted to suit the type of light. I have some pics that I can send off-list for anyone who wants to see what I did. It isn't anything fancy. Alternatively, I have a friend using some very neat 12V/55W halogens with built-in reflectors that are only about 2-1/2 inches across. Check on the RV list since those guys tend to use these smaller lights. Tailwinds, ...neil 601XL/Corvair/Dual Stick Fuselage and Instr. Subject: Question on setting valve lifters
    From: gpjann@juno.com
--> Zenith-List message posted by: gpjann@juno.com I'm using WW's method in setting my valve lifters. WW's procedure is to position the pushrod and cam half way through lifting the valve, then tightening the rocker. I am concerned that I do not understand the correct procedure for two reasons. After setting lifters there is a lot of play (about 3/16" gap) between the rocker and pushrod after rotating crank, and the pushrod oiling can get out of alignment with the rocker.. If this is correct how do you keep the pushrod oiling hole in line with the rocker? Would greatly appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks, Greg J.

--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Joseph Kerr" <kerrjf@charter.net> Hi List- I have all the holes drilled out to #30 on my rudder skin (not yet riveted), but it seems I've introduced some twist somewhere. My guess is the leading edge skin and its 'springiness' pushed the spar a little off the front beam. The bottom of the trailing edge is 12 to 15 mm out of alignment with the top of the trailing edge. What do you all think--Scrap the rudder? --Joe

    Subject: spring loaded rods
--> Zenith-List message posted by: Chesterman Family <chesterman@on.aibn.com> i have been flamed before for being honest but here goes anyway. the workmanship looks great but you have changed a simple design that i feel is going to cause a potential for distorted rudder horn. when you push hard on the brakes the rudder cables tighten slightly but the brunt of the force is taken by the two rods going to the strut on the origional design. this stops the pedals from moving and applies the hyd brake cylinders. with your design the rudder cables will see hard pulling on both cables at once when you try to apply the brakes and those nice springs let both pedals go forward at once. given enough cycles you will surely pull the rivets loose off the rudder horn. in fact a good hard application during run up could end up with a disconnected rudder. dave c 701 completed and flying since 97 > o S================================================

--> Zenith-List message posted by: Jack Russell <clojan@sbcglobal.net> Another victim, as of today, of the bad pre drilled holes on the bottom wing skins Hi Mark, Bill and Jack Joe: On my travel about the country I made it to mexico and got a flight in the xl with Roger. I talked to him about the skins and he showed me how they drill. It would be easy to make a mistake. He also said that they are working on the ability to drill all the skins.I hope they get a computer to do it. I told him that when I get the blank skins at least I know they are right. That is until I drill them wrong! I am back in the building mode now and have installed the flaps and have found that the rivet lines on the flaps do not line up with the rivet lines on the rear ribs on the wing. Off by about 5mm when placed 85mm from the #7 rib. I am checking with some others who have finish there wings about this. It doesn't look bad though.
