Jack,
Thank you for your advice and picture. Your work is very professional and
looks like you will be flying this summer or autumn.
My project is demanding a lot of money these days for the final touches
around the instrument panel and engine. May take some time to gather the
money, but it will fly one of these days.
Best wishes,
Johann G.
Icelnad.

Johann: I used the throttles from aircraft spruce and I like the way they
turned out. See pic. I started with a 2" long torque tube on the firewall
mounted right in the center but found that the short S bend in the cable
caused it to operate very stiff. I then made the long tube you see in the
picture and ran the cables straight and they work well. I also took out the
plastic friction nut on the passenger so only the pilot side will tighten.

Dear Listers: Age and a back that has requirred extensive surgery is forcing me
to sell my project. It is 90%+ finished and has a Stratus Subaru engine installed
and running.
If anyone is interested, I would like to hear from you. The remaining projects
are the assembly completion of the front opening canopy and assembly of the control
surfaces.

--> Zenith-List message posted by: "SKYSHOP.ORG" <duba@gate.net>
Just some information, I thought some of you will be interested in. The
discussion about Rotax air box in 701 needs to be clarified.
Unfortunately the Rotax air box doesn't fit in the 701 cowling as
supplied by Zenith or Czech Aircraft Works firewall forward package. We
are currently manufacturing our new 701 firewall forward package that
includes modified Rotax air boxes. This package has completely
redesigned cowling which is much more streamline than the old style with
integrated radiator and oil cooler. This package also has a big
advantage of a side mount NACA air scoop and K&N air filter integrated
into the fiberglass cowling. By supplying RAM air to the scoop and
directly feeding cold air to the reworked Rotax air box, we are picking
up substantial performance. Some of the performance figures for this
package on wheels are 105mph cruise and on new style 1200 floats 100mph
cruise. These firewall forward packages are the same packages that we
use on our production line at Czech Aircraft Works. This assures the
customer that every last nut and bolt will be supplied and the kit will
be complete http://www.skyshops.org/FIREWALLFOW.htm
Danny
Pss: New electric flap for CH701.
We now have retrofitable electric flap kit for CH701. This includes ACME
screw actuator and Ray Allen electric flap position indicator supplied
with complete instructions. Some of our customers have suggested that we
come up with easier deployment method. This system not only gives you
ease of deployment but also infinite amount of flap positions !!

Subject: Zenith-List: Rotax 912ULS instalation.
--> Zenith-List message posted by: Mark Sherman
<msherman95632@yahoo.com>
I'm at the point of ordering the engine for my 701
from Zenith. I have a friend building a 701 about 25
miles away and we are about at the same place in the
building process. He is just installing the 912ULS
and found that the air cleaners from Zenith do not fit
the air box supplied by Rotax and no parts to hook up
the carb heat to the air box. In a call to Zenith he
was told that most people leave the air box off and
just put the air cleaners directly on the carbs. Rotax
is firm that if you want a true 100hp engine that you
use the air box.
I was amazed that Zenith doesn't supply the parts for
the cold air intake or for carb heat. And no
installation help either. (well, not that surprised).
Has anyone who has installed the 100hp Rotax taken
pictures of the installation of the air box or has
everyone just put the air cleaners on the carbs and
called it good enough?
He has had his engine about three years now, but
Zenith said they don't supply it any different now
than then.
Any help or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Keith;
I am neither a builder nor a flier just a wannabe. I flew the 601 factory
demonstrator several years ago before the XL came out. I would like very
much to get a look at a 601XL and possibly a ride if one is going to be
there. I want to build but time, money and workshop haven't all come
together at the same time yet.

Ok Danny,
You have my attention. I am (assuming) that you are talking about a
912S, with a minimum of flaring on wheels and struts. Tell us a little
more about the setup. How does this setup perform at elevation (10,000')
the majority of where I will be flying. I guess I would also like to
know how other pilot's CH701/engines perform at this type of elevation
(so you guys can chime in here if you want). I guess I have had my mind
set to an 80-85mph cruise, but if I can get STOL performance with a
higher cruise speed (plus low fuel flow) then you have my attention. By
the way, what is the fuel flow for this setup you have described?
