Jack,
I cut out two access covers, one in each wing tip for the strobe power supplies.
Then I mounted the power supplies on the inside of the cover. If one fails
all I have to do is remove the cover, it is attached to the wing skin with rivetnuts,
and the supply comes out with the cover. This is on a CH250 with thicker
skins.
Cheers,
Bill

Keith:
When I was up in Midland for a flyinn I had a tour of Chris Heintz's hangars.
This is where he does his design work, makes prototypes and I think he was still
doing the the 2 place certified version of the CH 604 at that site. We saw
on the bench what looked to be a cessna 150 wing. When we asked him if this
was for the rumoured CH 150. All we got was one of Chris's patented sly grins.
I would guess that he would be looking to make a more GA version of a 2-seat
high wing - non STOL - as that is one area where he has nothing in the marketplace.
Just a best guess.

There is a rumor that ZAC will be redesigning another plane besides the 601 XL
that will have "maximum performance and capability possible under the new proposed
FAA category". This is said to be announced as soon as the new Sport Pilot
rules are finalized.
I'm really anxious to start my 701 but would be greatly disappointed if a newer
1232 pound version is announced. Any ideas as to what the new one might be and
any differences from the current 701? It would be nice if the empennage were
the same and I could get started.

"That is because as it is stretched out mine begins to form a curved line."
I don't contribute to the list much anymore, too busy flying whenever I get a chance.
But I do follow the list and decided to throw out a suggestion someone
gave me years ago about rivet spacing. The "fans" that have been discussed can
be a useful tool, but I found it to be more trouble than it is worth. (I borrowed
one, so I was not out the expense). A far better solution for me was a $1.00
piece of elastic your wife probably has in her sewing desk. Take a piece 3-4"
long by 3/8" or 1/2" wide and stretch it out so it is under some tension.
Then carefully mark a 20-25mm rivet pitch with a Sharpe marker. If you need a
35mm spacing, just stretch it until you get that spacing over the required length.
If you do this holding the elastic about one rivet on either end or the line
you are trying to make, you can get an even spacing over the distance. It
works great, makes a very straight line, spaces the rivets very evenly and best
of all, it is cheep. There is also no danger of scratching the surface of the
aluminum. Give it a try.

Can I use MIG welding wire (copper coated I think???) for gas welding
the 4130 parts?
The wire is .035 dia AWS certified ER70 S-6

It is better to use gas rod as it flows much better at a lower temperature.
Electric rod is not as easy to use. Takes higher temps to melt completely.
At least that is what my world class welder who works for me at Oshkosh
says.

So is there a specific rod that one should use for 4130?...Would the

In the gas welding process, a low alloy mild steel rod, typically 1/16"
welding
rod is a better choice, because it works with the flame required by the base
metal,
acquires the higher alloy in mixing with the 4130 and provides a means of
putting
material into the joint that will, or should be approximately 1-1/4 times
the thickness
of the tubing being welded. In welding using mild with 4130, the weld
material becomes
slightly stronger, the 4130 becomes slightly weaker at the joint, explaining
the need for
added thickness.
(I'd guess that the .035 weld wire would burn and loose its ability to
provide the strength of a wire that has more melt/mass.)
From the Linde Oxyacetylene Handbook, Chapter 22, Aircraft welding.

Bima, I guess I've been doing it wrong for a lot of years, but I use my mig welder
for 4130 and have never had a problem. Or at least I don't know of any.
I lied, I have screwed up a few times, but it was me, not the process. I used
to gas weld until a friend convinced me to buy a mig welder. I use .030 or .035
mild steel wire at a low amp setting and slow feed with O2/argon mix. Flow
or fill isn't a problem. My welds are a thick or thin as I want them. I actually
think it's easier than gas welding once you get the hang of it. It takes
practice.

Cleone, in response to your posting, I live in Phoenix AZ. If you were to purchase
the engine, I would crate up the engine and send it to you by freight trucking
(Yellow Freight I have found to be the best) and you would pick up the
engine there in Ill. freight COD. I started last week taking the engine off
my plane. It will be sold with the carbs, ignition system, starter motor and
the oil tank. I will keep the exhaust system. The engine has never been involved
in a accident and run perfectly. If you have other questions, let me know
