Hello Carlos,
Larry is right, setting the solid rivets with a hammer is very
straightforward and realy easy. I just did the main spar and both wing spars
for my HD today, and it took me about 4 hours of diligent and carefull work.
If you do it carefully and rivet by rivet, it is no problem at all. Try it
out on some scrap bits first, but use the same thickness extrusion, and the
same length of rivet as for the spar.
You will have riveted your spar long before you have built your squeezer!
Cheers,
Chris from Oz

Gig,
I had the same concern and asked Zenith. Below is my question and the reply from
Mr Nick Heintz. I did rivet this structure and now have moved it from the
work bench to saw horses. Beware the two front vertical L angles. They may have
to be trimmed for the baggage floor. I might have to remove some rivets later,
but have not seen anything in forward looking that appears to have a major
impact.
Tony Graziano: Working on fuselage- Wings, flaps, ailerons, tail feathers complete.
60lXL with aux tanks, strobes, baggage lockers, sticks and 600x6 tires.
2.It appears from the assembly guides that the entire fuselage is
drilled and clecoed except for the rear bottom skin and longerons,
which are called for to be riveted. I cannot find mention in the
guides of riveting the rest of the fuselage.
Question: Do you have any recommendations as to riveting the fuselage
structural members or do you recommend waiting until finishing
everything from tail to firewall before taking the structure apart for
deburring and priming before riveting. It would appear to be safe to
take apart the rear fuselage (through 6-B-4) and riveting the that
structure-but, I am not sure.
I am afraid I going to run out of clecoes.
(Reply from Mr. Heintz)
It is ok to rivet the rear fuselage as shown on page 3 of 4 section 6-B-4 of the
photo assembly guide.

I'm on 6B-10, the mating the forward Fuse floor sections and, with the
exception of riveting the bottom rear fuselage and the firewall, I have yet to
see any instructions to rivet any of the parts of the rear fuselage together.
Im going to runout Clecos before to long.

Congratulations Mr Breit.
Very pleased to hear of your success.
You'll have to fill us in on the aircraft's performance when you can.
Fly Safe!

GIG,
Spread your clecos out to cross points, end points and mid-points and you'll
find they will still support
twice the area you have on that plane.
Nice site, by the way.

Subject: | Landing Gear Axels - Drilling |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: <tgrazian@bellsouth.net>
To pick up the landing gear axel bolt pattern and drill straight holes in the 3/4"
thick spring gear of the XL, my thoughts are to drill the hole pattern in
a piece of thick steel plate to use as a drill guide. Since I also am installing
600x6 tires/wheels all around, the nose gear fork is from a 80l which is also
pretty thick material, I will probably also make a drill guide to drill holes
in the nose gear leg flange and the fork.
Has any one used this method or a better/same easier method? My concern is that
since the spring gear and nose fork is so thick, any hole angle from normal
would result in a pretty good bending moment at the attach bolt heads.

Tony: I was all concerned with drilling the holes straight until I made a guide
out of a peice of wood with some steel bushings. I drilled the holes straight.

Dear Listers,
My CH601 HD went through an extensive Inspection of Condition and
then I found that it would not run on one of the modules. It had 257
trouble free hours before I started the inspection. It is an experience
just removing the modules. I sent them to Sebring for a check out. Also
they are EXPENSIVE! I have never heard of anyone having trouble with one
before. Being retired and not wealthy this is quite a set-back here. I
have been fortunate to get this far, but now time is fleeting by and no
flying. Hopefully, only one will be bad. Has anyone had this happen before?

I just got a 9" long drill bit clamped the axel on to the gear leg and
drilled it. Drill one hole put in a bolt then another and so on. It
will work fine.
