They are made by Duccati - a good motor byce shop should be able to get them for you for a fraction of the price from Rotax. Aslo, was it really the ingnition module, that went bad? Several folks had trouble with one of the cable connectors to the modules. It had 257 trouble free hours before I started the inspection. It is an experience just removing the modules. I sent them to Sebring for a check out. Also they are EXPENSIVE! I have never heard of anyone having trouble with one before. Being retired and not wealthy this is quite a set-back here. I have been fortunate to get this far, but now time is fleeting by and no flying. Hopefully, only one will be bad. Has anyone had this happen before? Getting the nuts on is extremely frustrating because the bungees are in the way. (guess why he didn't put them on) I had to replace one gear leg and the parts kit from Zenair included the nut plate parts. They really solve the problem. The kit doesn't have any seat belts. I was thinking of going to an auto wreckers and picking up something out of a small car to use. My questions is, has anyone else done this? The baggage compartment floor is complete but clecoed and I thought now is the time to cut a slot in the floor to pass the ratchet anchor through it and bolt it to the fuselage bulkhead. Any thoughts on this? Advisable? Trevor, I didn't use the supplied seat belts but installed a harness. I have a PDF document that I will send you off-list. Basically it is the recommendations from the Zenair News #99 from March/April 1997. Mark also points out that a car seat belt may not be appropriate or acceptable. If any other Z-listers want a copy of the PDF, email me off-list. If there is enough interest I can post it to the photoshare or put it up on someone's web site. A while back I acquired the domain www.CH601.org but didnt have the expertise to add good content as a webmaster for this subject matter. Then... Dave Barth stepped up to the plate and volunteered to give a stab a it! If you check it out, I'm sure you'll find it quite informative, with lots of useful technical and social information on buiding 601s of all types, engine variations, etc. I am now in a pressured situation to make the 701 site as good as his! In case you don't remember the particulars about your new webmsater, here is an excerpt of his biography: David Barth in Ontario Canada. Building 601 XL from plans and sharing some forms and sourcing of materials with Al Etherington of Oshawa, Ontario and Mark Townsend of Alma, Ontario. 44 years old and married with two daughters 9 and 12. I work in a small (4 staff) charity and international development agency in Waterloo and often travel to Central American and Asian countries to meet with partners. Started building in June of 2002. Tail feathers done as are ailerons and flaps. Most parts for the wings are made and ready for assembly. Many parts are also made for the fuselage - when I get stuck somewhere, I make parts for another area while I consider the problem. I am getting quite a pile as I get stuck alot. Currently have a subaru engine but may also consider changing to a corvair. Please.. I'll make this request on his behalf... this only works with your contribution of pictures, stories and helpful building hints. One way everyone can help is to at least submit your web page address so visitors have an easy one stop shopping list for seeing what you are up to. This has worked out well on the 701 site. Hats off to Dave for his effort so far! Like with most families there will be times when you want to say, "to hell with it", but stick in there. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks for the complement on my web site. Especially from someone that seem to know something about web design. I wasn't going to say anything until further along in the progress. So things might change as we progress. But so far; I am very pleasantly surprised. After building the rest of my 701 kit from Zenith out of mostly raw materials, I spent most of my time measuring, measuring and measuring and I would cut it twice and it was still too short. It is rapidly becoming apparent how well Dedelius has their stuff together. For example; You cut nothing. All parts are cut to the exact size. You bend nothing, everything that needs to be bent is bent. The list of tools you will need, does not include shears. You measure nothing, all rivet holes are pilot drilled. You don't need a rivet fan. There are eight slat mechanisms. They totally have one built as an example, plus it's in the manual. Many, many parts are pre-made. All inspection covers are primed with latches already riveted on. One thing I really liked is that they package material as components, for example the slat bars are packaged in one bag with the right amount of rivets, screws, nuts, bolts, etc that you will need to build them. The struts are extruded for aerodynamics, not round tubes. Like I said things may change as I move along, but for now, I am a happy camper. I'll keep the list posted. Are they steel or aluminum? I have been thinking about using the aerodynamically shaped steel tube from Aircraft Spruce but wasn't sure what size.
