6psi sounds too low. Underinflation can cause blowouts because of the tube getting
pinched during the landings. Underinflation can also cause blowouts in tubeless
tires due to the excessive sidewall flex which overheats the rubber and
causes it to break down and fail prematurely. Keep the tires inflated to within
factory specs.

List . . . Forbes mag. has an interesting article (Aug. 16) about a small chemical
company which the daughter of the founder upon his death rescued from oblivion.
What caught my eye was one of their products "Pre-Kote" which is described
as an environmentally friendly metal treatment for painting planes which were
formerly treated with chromic acid products. The Dept. of Defense has given
approval for the use of this product on all air force bases. Continental Airlines
will begin to use it this fall.
I don't know anything about this product, but in our eternal quest for more friendly
corrosion treatments I bring it to the attention of the list in case anyone
else knows about it. Robert Schoenberger 701 - 40%

Ben,
If I remember, in the CH701 page there is a reference to a page (great
flying information, by the way) that the pilot lands and take off from
the most shot and bumpy places I have read... Well, there he says
that he uses his tires at 6 psi for extra cushion.
Maybe there is where this pilot got the ideas, but sometimes what
works to one person might not to another one. Like the two donkeys,
one with sacs of salt and the other with sponges... short, the salt
one fall in water and got released from the weight, the other one
folowed him and couldnt stand up anymore...
I think, that practice and common sence will give his the lower
pressure to use, (or anyone in his type of flying), but with so many
flats, he should have learned, like always, maybe is not the tires
fault, but he has to be right.
Saludos
Gary Gower.

The 701 plans says to pressurize the tire so that the distance from the
center of the axle is 3/4 inch less on the ground side than from the top of
the tire. This puts 10 pounds in my main gear tires and 5 pounds in the
nose tire.

Subject: | Older Rotax 912 engine install |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: Trevor Page <webmaster@upac.ca>
Greetings,
I just received my 912UL engine today. Its an older model I purchased
used with only some 10 hours on it. Its in excellent condition and
everything looks like its there except for a reg/rec.
I do have a few questions however in regards to my HD install:
1. Does anyone have any good 912 installation photos available to look
at on the net? Most images I've seen are for Subs and Jabs
2. I have the older oil tank without the drain plug on the bottom
(curved bottom). I've built the brackets in advance of receiving the
engine but I'm not sure how to mount this thing. Any thoughts?
3. My engine has the older metal box with the CDI modules in it and it
seems I should convert to BR8ES plugs from the older more expensive
EYQUEM style. I have the service PDf for this but I find the
instructions confusing on how to do the mod. Does anyone have better
instructions and/or photos on how to do this?
4. Does anyone have an unneeded stock 912 regulator/rectifier I can
take off your hands?
Sorry about all the questions. Everything has been going great so far
but I'm at a bit of a standstill since I need to paint the interior
before I can button up the turtle deck and finish the panel install
(which turned out awesome in my opinion!). I'm also building the XL
canopy and so far so good on that (waiting for the bubble to arrive so
I can do the flashing).
Thanks in advance!

Can this stuff be applied to rivet lines on an a/c that has already had the
skins painted with zinc chromate?

For those of you on the list I'm looking for alternate choices for
aircraft hardware, other then the standard Wicks and Aircraft Spruce.
One example is the recent AN Fittings locations, I got
www.SummitRacing.com and http://www.fittingsandadapters.com both are
valid suppliers of aircraft quality hardware but at a non aviation
price. I wish to put a list together for the www.ch601.org website of
all your suppliers and what you bought there, such as fuel gauges and
senders, wire, hydraulic canopy openers, cam locs, tires, rims brakes,
whatever you can think of. I know there out there for us all to find but
it wouldn't it be nice If they were all in one spot for us to choose
from.
Thanks in advance for helping each other and newer builders.

One of the best sources for AN fittings, stainless braided gas lines,
alum
tubing, etc, etc is Summit Racing Equipment. Phone is 1-800-230-3030,
web
is www.SummitRacing.com. Free catalog, a great reference for the
library
and fittings are usually much cheaper than any aircraft supply house.
Check out their neat gauges too, both electrical and mechanical.
