I ended up taking my tanks to a local welding shop and had a 3" dia. pocket
you could call it, recessed down into the top of the tank,
I found that even after grinding everything i could down, i still had a bump
in the wing skin.
anything else i could come up with seemed to be mickey mouse.

In the flea market at EAA this year, I saw the most amazing dent and crease
remover for aluminum. I consisted of a very strong magnet, and a piece of
steel placed behind the dent! The steel was shaped in different fashons
depending on the dent and where it was used. This guy dented a piece of
aluminum, then gently massaged the dent out. Even works ofer paint! It was
amazing. It was priced way too high, but I can see some homebuilders putting
something like this together at a fraction of the cost.

Can anyone offer advice on the best approach on how to form the main gear spring
7-L-2-1J? I have been studying the drawing and am not sure if I should attempt
it my self or send it out to a shop. I'm afraid most shops will throw up
there hands when they see it is for an airplane. I supose I could redraw the
plans and tell them it is for a farm implement. Maybe for a cart to go behind
my hay baler? lol

I don't know if he was using this system or something similar, but he
removed a serious dent without messing up the paint job. So it can be done.

one supplied with the kit, do you just put a rivet in the corners of the small
mounting plate that is fastened to the tube and then mount it on the skin somewhere
near where the strut attaches to the wing? Or should it be mounted to something
more sturdy like a rib flange? I'm reluctant to install it before I
mount the wings to the fuselage somewhere down the pike as I'm afraid it will
get damaged or broken off when I store the wing. Would there be anything wrong
with pulling the flexible tube from the root through the wing and out the pitot
tube hole in the skin, and then later attaching it to the pitot and stuffing
the tube back in the hole just before riveting the mounting plate to the skin?
Has anyone ever mounted a pitot tube to a strut so that all parts are accessible
in the future, and if so, where to get one? A/S shows one, but I'm not
sure about the mounting. I'm not concerned with looks on this bush plane.

mount flange is 3 inches in front of the spar and centered between the jury
strut and the main strut. I riveted a nut plate inside the wing with a hole
in the center to get to the tubing. I left the pitot tube itself off most
of the time before the inspection. I was afraid I'd poke out an eye or
break it off. I now have access to the tube as needed. I got the mounting
position from Roger at ZAC.

Robert,
When my wings were being handled, stored, and attached,
my 601 pitot had something of the same problem. I mounted the pitot bracket
to a
.025 disk with 4 holes in it and then used 4 plate nuts attached
peripherally about the
hole the disk fit over. Two tubes were tie-tied to the flared tubes on
assembly.
Pictures can be seen at www.macsmachine.com on the wing / electrical
routing.
I did fabricate my own pitot, and it works fine.

Well, list, I think I managed to get rid of most of my leading edge
skin crease.
The spoon thing didn't work too well. I couldn't put much pressure in
the places I wanted to while reaching over the skin.
I ended up using plastic hammer on the outside with a heavy block or
wood on the inside. I coaxed most of the crease out, and I decided to
stop tapping in case I started things worse!
Now the leading egde looks pretty good. You can't see any dent/crease
unless you are looking for it. So if you see my one day...don't look for
it, OK?!

We used a hydraulic exhaust tube bender. Use some pieces of plywood in the
area of the actual bend to prevent scratching the bar.Used a card board
template to compare to while bending so got the right radius bend. Turned
out quite good.

Hey Chuck, I asked this question once before, but did not get an answer.
How far does the pitot tube extent in front of the slat?
I am using a Dynon EFIS with their pitot tube, has sensors in it. I don't
have it yet, back ordered. I will have to build some kind of bracket.
Dynon says they don't know how far to put it, but they think the slats will
interfere. I don't know for sure what the guy said, he was some kind of,
well he didn't speak southern, and I don't understand broken Yankee. And, I
got tired of saying, "what?, or say that again".

I have the unheated tube for the Dynon system.
They don't tell you when you order it that they are
the middle man, and you can order a mounting kit from
their supplier, Gretz Aero. The part number is
PH502-12CR. You can get the pitot tubes there too,
but I can't remember if the price is better or not.

You can order a chrome or paintable kit. It is
pretty pricey for what you get, but Includes all the
