I was quite surprised by the number of off list responses.All of them very helpful in assisting me in making an informed purchase. IT is,no doubt, a big, big stretch to conclude that a tractor that is used to pull and power a mower that cuts the grass that grows on a runway that is used by a 601HD as a taxi, take-off and landing area, could remotely be considered aviation related. You know I just took a shot and was rewarded with a lot of useful information being sent to me. It is appreciated. I apologise to anyone that found themselves and their sensibilities offended by my request for tractor comments. Corbalis" I haven't landed on turf with my 601HDS TD but other planes I flew usually stopped OK on turf as long as it was dry. Practice landing out of a forward slip. I'd class the 601 as a moderate slipper. I got my kit in 92 and the brakes are a joke. If you don't mind a firm arrival, its easy to land tail wheel first. Keep your tail down on the ground. Wheel land or pop the tail up after touchdown and carry it up til it settles in at about 25 mph. You will need a little more room with a passenger...more momentum... use your brakes. It looks like you have 2200 feet to work with if you need to...if the 600 on each end is okay for roll out. The 2 blade Woodcomp really makes a big improvement on my 912UL 601 HDS compared to the 3 blade GSC from the kit. You can get comparable climb with the ground adjustable but then you can't get over 100 mph cruise. Likewise you would need 5000 ft of runway to get off the ground to get 130 mph cruise. I know nothing about it other than what info is given on Ebay. The engine mount would have to be changed, but Jan would probably work with someone due to the large demand for RV mounts in the RV FWF packages. Hi Robert, I mounted my pitot tube to an inspection cover which I placed just in front of the main strut attach bracket. This gives me access to the strut attach bolts for inspection, and also allows replacement of the plastic tubing to the pitot tube. I'll rivet it on with A4s. I'm not in the air yet, and don't know how it will work. I used the back cylinders for mine. I haven't found a need for EGT's yet but it is comforting to look at. Just got back after almost two hours of night touch and go's with my son. Great fun!
