To the list;
all sources I checked no longer sell Zn Chromate in bulk. Only the 12
oz. spray cans are presently available, and they are no longer being
manufactured. So, we're stuck with Cortec-VPCI-373. With the added
green pigment it is supposed to be as good as Zn Cr, according to
Brian at Cortec Corp in Minneapolis.
It is only available in 5 gal pails at $282 + freight. It will coat
250 sq ft/gallon after 10% dilution with denat. alcohol. I estimate
the interior surface of the CH701 is about 450 sq. ft.
I am willing to buy the 5 gal pail and split it into 5 1-gal cans for
any builders who would like to have a gallon. Cost would be about $60
for each gallon plus shipping.
Email me at howado@cwia.com if you are interested.

Joe,
As I understand what you've posted here, you have built what is
essentially a rather long "glass pack" muffler which is similar to those used
by hot-rodders in years gone by. As I remember, those bombs had mor effect on
the quality of the sound than they did on the volume, but they were usually
quite short. That type of muffler does, however, produce very little (if any)
extra back pressure. A good design for performance, and it seems, easy to
make. Thanx muchly for sharing it.

Hi all ! Just joined last evening. I'm from east-central Ohio, and will be a
701 owner soon as I can ;o) Currently I fly an Avid MKIV, and up till yesterday
I used an IVO inflight adj.
Brandon, while doing some other upgrades, we ( my retired father helps boatloads
;o) decided to do some static thrust tests. Although our IVO has functioned
properly last ~80 hours, I've been suspect of its efficiency. I was disappointed
to find we got more static thrust out of a grnd adj GSC than we could from
the cap IVO at any pitch setting. Not bad mouthing IVO, just reporting our
test findings. Recognizing static thrust isn't an all encompassing performance
indicator, I haven't figured a way to take the tree and scales along. If interested,
I'll report again after I fly it w/ the GSC.

List . . . I am extremely interested in the Swedish mufflers. I think most people
enjoy the sight of the planes, but don't enjoy the noise from them when they
fly in close proximity to their homes. As one who will someday be flying from
a rural landing strip, I want to keep on the good side of my neighbors. To
those of you who are experimenting with these types of mufflers, it will be
muchly appreciated if you would post your successes, problems, mounting, etc.
so the rest of us can build upon this important topic. Thx. Robert Schoenberger

ZAC sells the cortec 374 by the quart. I have used
both the clear 374 from ZAC and some pigmented 373
that I bought from a gentleman on this list, and I
like the pigmented 373 much better. It sprays much
more like automotive primer. My personal preference
only!!! I did not like the way the clear 374 sprayed.
I sprayed it a little thick, and it acts as a mild
adhesive. Little aluminum chips and shavings stick to
it two months later. It has a smooth glassy finish
that I don't like for a primer.
Again, this is my preference only, and is partly due
to my spraying it too thick. Also, if you aren't
using the alumaprep and alodine products, I highly
recommend them. (as many on the list do.) I am dumb
enough to have to see it for myself, and very much
liked the results. A much better bond.
Respectfully,
Brandon Tucker
