Thanks to all for the input on cheap cleco pricing. We very much appreciated all
the posts and e-mails. Although initially we pondered used clecos, we ultimately
decided to go with new, and $0.35 each for new seems to be a typical "good"
price. I ended up buying from the Yard Store but there were other good options
at that price level as well.
If there's a better source of info than this list when it comes to finding cheap
airplane tools and gadgets, I have yet to see it! Aviation Consumer, beware....

I'm doing the "not worthy" wave as I type this!......I have not done
well with 25 thou 6061T6...Actually I made a big mess for the hour I
tried....I got acceptable welds after 10 mins or so practice with TIG.
Where the Henrob stands out is the little cutting head...Its almost like
'score and snapping' sheet plastic....Almost as good as using a disk
cutter and about as fast.
If you do any heavier fabrication its great, about the only thing I see
aplication on an airplane though is welding 4130 tubes and light guage
steel.
The rudder pedals landing gear etc on a ZAC would be an ideal
application for the Henrob.

My Henrob is great...
For Aluminum my experience is with differing thicknesses of Aluminum
tube, .058 and .125. It takes a steady hand and a bit of skill but
welding them both is pretty easy. Patience is the key as using a light

Has anyone replaced the hinge bearings on the 701 with
oil impregnated
bronze bearings? I would prefer to replace
steel-on-aluminum bearing
surfaces whenever possible. Any advice would be
appreciated.

Howard.
I didn't like the idea of the steel on aluminum
either. So when I built my 701 I used oil impregnated
bushings on the flaperon, elevator and rudder. And oil
impregnated nylon on the rudder pedals and control
stick areas.
The idea of having to oil or grease those areas and
have them collect all the dirt, just turns the oil
into lapping compound making the wear much worse.
I think I have some pictures, if you would like
contact me off list and I will send them to you.

Subject: | 701 flaperon arm Question ? |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: <petes15515@msn.com>
Maybe I'm over thinking this but hopefully someone out there can put my mind
at rest....
I,m plans building a 701 and I'm currently completing the right wing. Here's
my Q...I made the flaperon arm template as per the plans ( rev. date 09/2003
) but when I clecoed an arm to it and alligned it with the trailing edge of
the wing and the flaperon bracket (7V4-6) it seems to me that my arm is
maybe 10mm further back than the photos in the construction manual indicate.
In other words my arm does not line up equally with the wing bracket but
rather sits slightly inwards.
I've double, double checked all my measurements and everything loooks good.
The wing came out as per the plans to within 1mm.
It seems to me that the essence of the template is to reference the pivot
hole to the wing trailing edge. The plans show 67mm down and 32 mm out.
Am I missing something ?? Does it matter ?? Any thoughts would be
appriciated.

I am considering a plans built XL and was wondering if anyone knows of a
place to buy sheet aluminum in Wisconsin? I used to buy stuff from
Wicks, but that is near St. Louis and about 7 hours or so from my place
near Milwaukee. Would like to find something closer, so avoid paying for
shipping.

Todd you should search the archives for messages regarding Yarde Metals. They
have some really great prices if you can buy all your metal at once rather than
a few sheets at a time. It would be worth the cost of shipping and you would
still save.

I bought from Yarde and was very satisfied, even with the shipping it was still
cheaper than Wicks. Everything was well packed, no damage and I got copies of
the test certification documentation for each batch. I don't know if Wicks
provides that or not. Motor freight from CT to Missouri was 200 bucks I picked
up the shipment at the local terminal.
