Funny you mentioned this as I ordered mine yesterday online from Sports
plaza in Seattle.
Thanks to Ben Haas for doing the legwork finding these and sharing the info.
If you look in the photoshare section you will find pics and some tips on
installation. I think he mentions using engine baffle material on the firewall.

Me too, I'm hoping to have it flying this fall. But nothing seems to happen
when you plan it. You mean, am I stressed for all that? No, I don't think
so. I consider all my changes as improvements, I hope. I am somewhat
concerned about getting the CG right. Take care, Larry N1345L

Todd I have to agree with Larry with the POSSIBLE exception of the nose rib form
block. I say "possible" since I don't know for sure how plywood or MDF would
hold up for making all the nose ribs (probably plywood would be OK but if you
use MDF I would strongly suggest adding the aluminum plate as shown in the plans.
MarkTownsend and I made the nose rib forming block from some wonderful
solid maple cupboard doors we found at a used building materials recycling store.
If you use a good piece of solid hardwood for this set of blocks I know it
will hold up. We did not use the piece of aluminum plate on the blocks as shown
in the plans and after three sets of nose ribs (48 ribs) the blocks look
as good as when we made them. Just one more option - but when wondering about
looking to see what might work for what, it is good to know there are options.
Happy Building.

one set of well made plywood forms.

You might want to make a 600 series list since there are some CH640 builders
out there.
Really though, a complete list is all that's required. It just takes a bit
of extra time deleting stuff that's not applicable to my plane. The extra
time wasted is annoying, but sometimes there are things from 701 builders
that are also applicable to 601 builders.

I'm getting close to being done with the construction phase of my 601HD and am
thinking ahead to the POH. I have seen the ones listed on the Matronics list but
they are figured at 1050lbs. for gross. The HD model gross is supposed to be
1200lbs. Does anyone flying the HD model have the correctspeeds for 1200 lbs
as far as stalls, best glide, rotation etc.
Thanks

Hello Ron,
What I understood was that has to be parallel with the fuselage in the
trailing edge section of the wing (7F5-3SP).
Sometimes the tail cone gets a little twisted in the stabilator area,
then the stab will not be parallel to the wings, now the only
reference you have is the cabin section, no wings instaled yet to
check.
Hope this helps

Hi list members.
I am installing the radiator and oil cooler on the Rotax 912 ul engine. I bought
the engine used and it has a oil heat sensor.
The sensor sticks forward and will interfere with the radiator. Has anyone used
this sensor? Is this information necessary?
Just besides this sensor is the oil pressure sensor sticking out to the right.
On the picture manual from Zenith, this oil heat sensor hole is closed with a plug.
Sorry for not having any pictures, but hope this in not too confusing.
Hope you can help.
Thanks in advance.

Folks -
I'm hoping that those that are flying behind a 912/914 Rotax engine (or are
planning to) have heard about this already, but just in case (and since I
don't remember this coming up on this list before), you might want to look
at the revised AD they're planning to issue. This is particularly important
if you bought your engine (and have it sitting in a crate) prior to
2002-21-16 being complied with. Anyway, take a look at:
http://www.regulations.gov/fredpdfs/04-18440.pdf
Comments are due by the 12th of October, if you're interested.
Yeah, yeah, I know - you're not required to comply with AD's on experimental
aircraft. True (although there are exceptions.) Still - something like this
is safety driven - it's worth a look at. Mostly, you need to look at
replacing the dipstick - that's not too expensive.

Hello Johann,
Glad to hear from you, Yes the oil temperature gauge is VERY important
in the 912. Not for overheating but to prevent running it to cold.
Here it takes some time (about 10 to 15 min) at 2,500 rpm to get the
oil over the minimum required of 50C Is important (is in the manual)
not to get over 3,500 rpm before reaching that temperature. and here is
not cold year round...
Once I read in Sport Aviation (or maybe Kitplanes) that there was an
aftermarket valve/bypass for the oil cooler line in the 912 to prevent
the oil to get to the cooler until the temp was in the green... Anyone
has looked/tested/used one?
Saludos
Gary Gower.

Todd, I bought plans last December with intentions of plans and some kit built
parts. I've made some, but since I've been spending most of my free time with
flight lessons, the plane building has almost stopped. I was looking hard at
brakes and even bought a 30 inch to get me going till I either made or bought
a large brake. Guess what I spied recently at my FBO's maintenance hanger.
An 8 foot and 4 foot brake. Guess who is going to see if I can use them for a
bit when the time comes. As been said previously, Zenith will sell each individual
part if needed, so don't sweat it. Just start work.

Avweb published some spreadsheets that you can use in conjunction with
flying a series of climb and descent profiles that will allow you to
determine Vx, Vy and best glide accurately for any altitude. There was a
series of articles on this "Bootstrap Approach to Aircraft Performance"
which included descriptions of the profile process for fixed pitch and/or
constant speed propeller equipped aircraft. Please see:
<http://www.avweb.com/news/airman/182410-1.html>
<http://www.avweb.com/news/airman/182418-1.html>
The spreadsheets are at:
<http://www.avweb.com/newspics/bootstp1.xls>
<http://www.avweb.com/newspics/bootstp1.slk>
<http://www.avweb.com/newspics/bootstp2.xls>
I've flown the profile for practice in a Citabria 7ECA and it worked out
quite well. I'm planning on doing the same in my XL when it is completed.

I have the oil thermostat sold at Lockwood. It works fine. The oil warms up
