I bet it's the larger surface area we have because of the flaperon style roll control instead of the common setup in most planes. Stick forces are nearly neutral in cruise and turn initiation in either direction takes little pressure. My wife has flown the plane from the right seat using her left hand on the stick and has no problems. Fwiw, Bob Risch N801BK 60 hrs. When I got a big person in the back seat the aileron controls rubbed slightly. The controls felt stiff on that flight until I lowered the flaps. I'm going to support the back seat with a bracket off the covers for the vertical control rods this winter. Bill Wilcox Valdez, AK N801BW 130 hours Wishing it was not snowing so I could go flying! I'm only 20-minutes from there if you decided to stop overnight, it's a decidedly friendly place. Kelly is there and I have my plane nearby at Moline. I have noticed that if the ailerons feel a little stiff, especially leveling the wings after a tight turn, I just need to be a little more aggressive on opposite rudder. The 701 (and I suspect the 801 also) feel to me to require more coordination of the rudder than say the 172's I was used to flying. Definitely more of a stick and "rudder" aircraft. Just my 2 cents worth though. Mike Sinclair N701TD 60+ trouble free hours so far. > > > >Ch801 fliers: > > >I am experiencing high aileron control forces mainly at cruise. I installed the "no slot" aileron mod. Stick forces seem right in line with Cessna 172 or Piper PA-22. I infer from your note that there is no excess friction in the controls when standing still.
