I really need the 1200 or 1300# as well as the 500# model. I can pay cash or swap welding or any of about 50 different airplane drawings. Please respond directly to me NOT thru the list. I know of two men that have put spring gear under an HDS, one tri-gear, and one taildragger. They are no longer on the list, but I have been discussing the taildragger version with the builder via e-mail. Most of this information is on the www.ch601.org website, as previously mentioned. Grove sells the spring gear with wheels and brakes and gun drilled brake lines for around $1400. I have not contacted them for a current price. This gear is heat treated 2024, and significantly lighter than the cold bent 6061 that sell with the XL kit. I was mistaken when I previously said that it comes with a mounting bracket. Chip at CAW told me that his composite gear would be 40% lighter than the stock XL gear and would cost about the same as the Grove gear. ZAC is shipping my fuselage kit this week, so hopefully I can get more concrete information and numbers on the gear over the next several months. Feel free to contact me off list for mor information. In the mean time much plotting and planning :-) I've got some avionics from previous aircraft that I've upgraded and have been looking at trying to get a sensible cost/functionality balance on new kit to buy. My current panel design is shown on: http://www.airplane.org.uk/zenith_zodiac_601xl.htm I would welcome any comments on what you like, what you don't and any issues with practicality. Still haven't chosen between the Jabiru and Rotax but leaning towards the Jabiru. If it only gets 2 rivets, like the top, seems a > peice that has equal sides would be fine. These rivets are just to hold everything together until you rivet the skin on, they're not very critical. Two in each end aught to do. If I recall correctly, the flanges of the tip rib and the flanges on the spar do not overlap. That would be the reason the end connected to the spar is longer, the upper 20 mm sticks up beyond the spar web and the rivets go just below the top end of the spar in the middle of the 20 mm overlapping segment . The upper flange is entirely in contact with the tip rib so it only has to be 20 mm long. > > The plans don't show it, and the manual does not say it, but I have seen > Zodiac's with rivets through the rudder skin into the tip rib forward of > the spar. Should there be any here? Thanks. I think I put one or two rivets on each side forward of the spar just because there was some gap between the skin and the rib in that area. It looked better riveted but they're probably not necessary -- Bryan Martin N61BM, CH 601 XL, Stratus Subaru. You'll have to reach across with your left hand to take the stick while you reach around the stick with your right to get at the switches. You might want to put your most often used switches where you can easily reach them with your left hand. -- Bryan Martin N61BM, CH 601 XL, Stratus Subaru. Other than the panel probably costing as much as the whole airframe, looks good to me. :) do not archive Get your name as your email address.
