--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Larry Martin" <lrm@isp.com> Yep, Zenith now puts out a CD on the 701 instead of a Black and White manual, well they may still have the manual. I've seen the CD and it's sure better than the manual. I think they get $25 or $35 for the CD. However, you need a computer at your work place or you have to print everything. I think they, Zenith, should publish the color manual. They sure charge enought for the plans and manual to justify it, $380. Subject: Questions about Dynon EFIS D-10?
    From: "Jeffrey J Paris" <jeffrey-j-paris@excite.com>
--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Jeffrey J Paris" <jeffrey-j-paris@excite.com> Hello Listers, I have a question or two about the installation of the Dynon EFIS D-10 that I am installing in my 601XL. If anybody anybody is using this equipment and has installed theirs' I could use some help. My first question revolves around the wiring that pertains to the Altitude Encoder? What's going on there? I have my transponder already hooked up to my encoder. Is their a way to "piggyback" the wiring to the encoder so both the EFIS and the Transponder can use the information provided by the Altitude Encoder. Second, if I can't piggy back will I need another altitude encoder? Lastly, am I overthinking this thing and should I just forget the hook-up and live with the fact that the unit will not be adjusted for barometic pressure? Anyones thoughts, opinions and insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time and consideration, this list is great! Subject: Fuel pump operation (was 601XL Fuel Valve and duel control
problem ) --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Jim Frisby" <n801za@hotmail.com> Tim, I'm thinking that the pump is designed for a set increase in pressure. I thought the pressure was limited by the differential pressure across the check valves. For example, if it was designed to raise the pressure 5 psi, and the pressure was already say 4 psi in the incoming line, wouldn't that raise it to 9 in the outlet? Jim Frisby N801ZA Palmer, Alaska Time: 06:21:36 PM PST US From: Tim & Diane Shankland <tshank@megsinet.net> Subject: Re: 601XL Fuel Valve and duel control problem --> Zenith-List message posted by: Tim & Diane Shankland <tshank@megsinet.net> There is an aspect of mechanical engine fuel pumps that is often not considered. They are not additive for fuel pressure. Most engine driven pumps do not pump on the "power stroke" from the engine. That is when the engine pulls the diaphragm down it does not pumps fuel out, it compresses a spring. When the power stroke is done the spring forces the fuel out, so the pressure from the pump is determined by the spring. This is because it it pumped on the power stoke the pressure would overwhelm the carb. Since the output pressure of the mechanical pump is determined by its' spring it is not additive. That is why low wing aircraft with both an engine driven pump and an electric "boast pump" have no problem with over pressure.

--> Zenith-List message posted by: Winston Ellis <w1mdi@cox-internet.com> Yes. The Dynon includes an encoder that you can hook up to the transponder but since you already have an encoder you don't need that function. This will simplify your wiring harness. The Dynon does have barometric adjustment for the altimeter. Jeffrey J Paris wrote: > --> Zenith-List message posted by: "Jeffrey J Paris" <jeffrey-j-paris@excite.com> > ... From: RURUNY@aol.com
Subject: Re: Questions about Dynon EFIS D-10?
--> Zenith-List message posted by: RURUNY@aol.com Jeff, The Dynon D-10 has a built in altitude encoder and outputs this in standard gray code used by most transponders(11 wires). The new Dynon D-10A also has a built in altitude encoder but it is a serial output only (1 wire). You would need a newer transponder such as the Garmin GTX327 to use the encoder. If you have your transponder already hooked up to a separate encoder you can just leave it like that and install your dynon. The dynon will not use your existing encoder for anything and does not need an external encoder for any of its functions. The dynon has an encoder built in it for its own use and for output to your transponder. If you have the newer dynon D10A and an older transponder you wouldn't be able to use the dynon encoder for that transponder anyway. If the transponder and the dynon are compatable you could wire your dynon encoder output to the transponder and sell your existing encoder. Using the soft keys on the dynon, you can set the barometric pressure manually. Hope this helps. Brian Unruh Long Island ( Installing a dynon) >My first question revolves around the wiring that pertains to the Altitude Encoder? >What's going on there? >Anyones thoughts, opinions and insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for >your time and consideration, this list is great!

--> Zenith-List message posted by: "norman" <normskiroo@ukonline.co.uk> Does anyone have a problem when full flap is selected in trimming the nose down tendency on the Zenair Zodiac CH601 XL? The first two XL's now undergoing test flying in the UK (none are on the register at present) will not trim out with full flap and the stick has to be pulled back to fly straight and level. I have come to the conclusion that the only way to fix the problem is to extend the elevator trim tab beyond the trailing edge of the elevator. The trim tab was doubled in size some time ago by Czech Airworks but the problem is still with us. Anyone else had this problem and have you fixed it? Regards, Norman Butcher
