At speeds below 200 knots, true airspeed can be found by correcting calibrated airspeed for temperature and pressure altitude. A rule of thumb is: True airspeed is 2% more than calibrated airspeed per 1,000 feet altitude above sea level. If a true airspeed indicator is installed, it is equipped with a rotatable ring which works in conjunction with the airspeed indicator dial in a manner similar to the operation of a flight computer. To operate the indicator, first rotate the ring until pressure altitude is aligned with outside air temperature in degrees Fahrenheit. Pressure altitude should not be confused with indicated altitude. To obtain pressure altitude, momentarily set the barometric scale on the altimeter to 29.92 and read pressure altitude on the altimeter. Be sure to return the altimeter baromet ric scale to the original barometric setting after pressure altitude has been obtained. Having set the ring to correct for altitude and temperature, read the true airspeed shown on the rotatable ring by the indicator pointer. For best accuracy, the indicated airspeed should be corrected to calibrated airspeed by referring to the Airspeed Calibration chart in Section 5. Knowing the calibrated airspeed, read true airspeed on the ring opposite the calibrated airspeed. copied ad pasted from webpages cause it easier than typing. What a shame :-( http://members.eaa.org/home/ehotline/041203.html Goodbye, D-Wings; Hello, Military Channel Aviation enthusiasts who regularly tune into the Discovery Wings channel will no longer be able to do so after January 10, 2005. That's when Discovery Communications says it will transition to a new format, The Military Channel, on digital cable TV systems. The new format will offer "a broad focus on all aspects of the military, with a wide array of programming about its people, strategy, technology and history," Discovery says. "While Discovery Wings Channel focused exclusively on aviation, the Military Channel will feature a dramatically broadened programming mission." The network's revamped slate of series and specials is designed to take viewers "behind the lines" to tell the personal stories of servicemen and women and offer in-depth explorations of military technology, battlefield strategy, aviation, and history. Ah ah! Fun questions! The first time I boarded the plane with my instructor, I thought I would impress him with my Navaid Autopilot and its wing leveler feature. He showed me how this planes already flies hands free. This said, it is easy to control the plane with feet alone and look at the maps, take notes and operate whatever needs to be operated. While the elevator trim is pretty sensitive, I have not much difficulty setting it for climb, cruise and descent. When I went to Sherbrooke, I cruised for quite a while hands free, sometimes playing with maps and CFS and tracking flight progress on my pad, sometimes, just relaxing and enjoying the scenery. I don't know if this is true for the HDS, but the HD was refered as being stable by my instructor. You want to buy an autopilot? I may have one for sale!
