Gary,
Have you checked the width of the trim tab the Chech works people are
offering?(I believe they have as well as ZAC, gone to a wider tab?)
I would think somthing around the 600mm would be a lot more effective,, but
in addition to that...
I plan to (someday) reposition my horizontal stab about a 1/2 " lower
(Leading edge) than what the plans call for and that i hope will help with
not requiring as much trim aft.

I was wondering if i can get some help, i need to know what is the height of
the center of the prop flange from the ground with the plane sitting level,
i know that tire pressures and tire sizes, make a difference so maybe it
would be better to get the height in reference to the top of the fire wall.
I am working on an alternate engine install package and trying to get an
engine mount designed.
You help would be appreciated.

I was one of the first to order the dual stick option when it became
available. Most of the parts apply to both dual and single stick, and ZAC
will let you order only those specific parts you'll need. They might even
give you (at least partial) credit for the single stick parts if you return
them.

Hi list.
A short while ago there was some discussion on the list of a clean 12 V power source
for the shop. Someone had mentioned taking the power unit out of a PC and
I thought that was a good idea. I extracted one from a PC carcass at work
and I can't get any juice from it. I am sorry to hit the whole list with this
request but I did try searching the archives and couldn't turn up any answer.
The fan isn't even really dusty so the unit looks really good. I took the box
apart and there was power getting to the unit but nothing comes out. I discovered
the yellow wires were supposed to be 12 V, the red wires, 3 V and the
orange wires, 5 V. Couldn't figure anything else out. They are pretty complicated
units. So! Is the unit toast or am I missing something? Mail me off list
if you have advice for me on this one please.

Escapes me at the moment as to which wire colors do what, but if you'll re-assemble
the carcass and note some wires going strange places, these are the "on-off"
wires.
Some older computers had a mechanical on-off switch (tied the conductors together
for "on") while others used solid state switching.
At any rate, 99% of the power supplies are "switching" type as opposed to the usual
rectifier-filter type.
Once you see what turns the unit on & off the rest should be easy.
Possibly somebody will respond with something more definitive.
Bottom line here is that the switch on the power supply (if it did indeed have
one) may not be all that is required to make it turn on.

You need to be careful here. Many PC supplies do not regulate well until a
significant load is in place on the +5 portion of the supply. If I was
looking for a decent +12 supply I would go to www.aesham.com and order a
supply to fit whatever the requirement is.

headings .... seems an aricraft so perfectly suited to this purpose;

It is a switching power supply and it only works with a certain load. It
will not work if you have just a digital ohm meter across the leads.

Hello list members.
You guy's who have been trying to install a gun rack or a place to store the
fishing rod in your planes. I saw this idea from Scott Laughling
http://www.cooknwithgas.com/4_19_04_WingTip.JPG
where he made an access cover at the wing tip.
Just make some gun case or a rod bracket to take on your fishing and hunting
trips. Just point the barrel outwards toward the wing tip. The other
direction is pointing you know where. :-)

I recently had all those questions also. ZAC's advice here was limited, but gave
it to me in terms of prop clearance above ground. The rule of thumb was 10
inches for using rough grass fields, maybe a little less for airports, but not
less than 8". Reverse engineering to determine what works best. I have a 68"
Powerfin, so with radius of 34" then a total ground to center of flange distance
of 45" , thus leaving 11" ground clearance. Using a hay field for a landing
strip in the past for my ultralight, i remember doing a lot of grass mowing/prop
cleaning.

For those who have not seen it yet, sportplanes are setting regional training and
sales centers using factory CH 601 XL's, so far they have 14 set up. That will
be great for builders like us, we can get transitional training or a sport
pilot license in a 601XL. It is also interesting to see what the factory 601's
are going for.

Well Johann thank you for the recognition. That's exactly what I had in mind.
You haven't seen the forward facing paint ball gun barrels on each wing to shoot
at trespassers on our game ranch in Western Nebraska. They will be used for
moving targets since most of them are on snowmobiles or 4-wheelers. Just call
the Sheriff and tell him to look for the guys with the big, red blotches on
their clothing.

you could mount one on each strut near the wing so the
bullets would miss the prop.
Anyhow thats how its done in down in Crawford
according to Zed.
But I think down there the big boys use A-10s due to
the giggle factor, plus the ammo's cheap.
Zed, could you e-mail a rain check for the shindig,
I'll try to make the next one, that 32 mile no-fly
zone with a 100 block no drive zone and having to run
the protester gauntlet really put a damper on my
stylish 10 gallon grand entrance plans.

Just as a note if you really wanted to know, the color codes for the
wires on a modern ATX type power supply are:
Black - Ground
Blue - negative 12.0v
Green - Power supply on
Gray - Power supply ok
Orange - +3.3v
Red - +5.0v
White - negative 5.0v
Yellow - +12.0v
This does not apply to all power supplies, just those labeled "ATX"
which is what you will get if you walk in to a computer shop and ask for
a power supply. If you want to use on for a source of 12 volts, and you
really need nice clean power, you might as well buy a communications
power supply. The cheap computer power supplies do not regulate well,
and the good ones are in the $130-$250 range.
