Thanks to all for the Yamaha snow machine boot part numbers.
The RC airplane inside the gym last week was nice. After I mistakenly deleted
the address I met a fellow who is a serious modeler. Sure would like to forward
him the url.
Thanks again.

Bill,
You're in Thomaston, Ga.? I can't believe that I missed this info in
the past. I have my 601HDS at the Thomaston airport. I guess this may
show how much I haven't been able to get to the airport this winter.

Tell him to come down to Thomaston and see me start my 3300 for the
first time this weekend.

Update for www.CH701.com viewers:
The website has a new server!
What this means is that any links that pointed to individual pages at the old site
may have to be updated..
This does not affect the the home page address of www.CH701.com , that stays the same, but any references to pages inside the site would be different!
2nd item: We now have the start of a complete builders photo album of a 701 from
start to finish donated by Andre Van Den Elsen on the builders photo pages.
Lots of great pics, but these are only half of them (!) and more are coming.
We were fortunate enough to have the talents of Mark Townsend spruce up the entire
website, so you will start noticing some big improvements in its appearance.
You should see the small 701 plane at the TOP of the homepage, to confirm
that you are actually using the new server that Mark has implemented.
Hats off to Mark and Andre for making this an even better site!

Right now I'm at a stage of building my CH-701 where I feel like I'm about
to go into overload.
The fuselage is on wheels waiting up in the cold garage for a stabilizer and
elevator, windshield and antennas to be fitted.
My left wing is getting most of the attention right now in my warm workshop
downstairs and I'm 3/4 finished with it. Left fuel tanks need leak checking.
I'm reading the Aeroelectric Connection and putting the last touches on my
B&C shopping list for the electrical system.
My panel is waiting for switches and a dimmer so it can be painted and
assembled.
The controls need final assembly.
Paint!!!!
I long for the good old days when I could concentrate on one piece or
section of construction and then clear off the bench and start another. I guess
thats why I was dreading the thought of having to figure out the maze of
paperwork ahead to get this project finished.
It was easy though. I just sat in front of my T.V. with a paper and pencil
and in a little over an hour had a timeline set and in the proper order of
everything needed to do with instructions on all forms. This was a big help for
the administratively challenged such as I.I can reference back to the DVD
anytime for help. This was perfect timing for me.
Homebuilthelp.com How to License your Homebuilt Aircraft

you're up to your neck in building and are dreading the paperwork.

An off topic question.
In the December 04 issue of EAA Sport Pilot, it states that an A&P can perform
the annual condition inspection on an experimental amateur-built aircraft without
the need for an Inspection Authorization rating.
I was trying to verify that in the FAR's and can't seem to find where it says that.
Part 65 does say that an IA is needed for annual inspections and doesn't
make an exception for experimental aircraft?

Subject: | 601 XL Prop Problem |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: JAPhillipsGA@aol.com
Hello Fellow Threaders, Got a problem with putting the prop on my 3300. I
bought the FWF kit from Jabiru. Looking at the Jab instructions it shows the
prop bolts going from rear to front. No safety wire. On the ZAC instructions for
same engine and prop it shows bolts front to rear with nice safety wires
through the bolt heads. Called Nick at ZAC and surprise ...he had not even seen
the Jabiru instructions for the FWF kit for their airplane! Call me old
fashioned, but wouldn't you think ZAC would be concerned about the instructions
that
effect their airplane? No matter who they sub out to for kits and parts if
the XL bites the dust wouldn't if look bad for ZAC planes and sales in the
future? I faxed the diagram to Nick, he acknowledged the difference, but he would
not comment. Who would expect more from Nick. Called Pete at Jabiru. He did not
seem to know of the difference either, but at least he commented that "that
was always the way Jabiru puts their props on." Course they are from Australia.
I don't really give a dammed which way it goes on, but wouldn't you think
they would have the one "BEST" way? Accepted construction practice for bolts is
"front to back, out-board to in-board" unless restricted by design. Right? So
at least ZAC adheres to that. Anybody got a best way? Bill of Georgia

Common sense says "The shear loads and torque loads are nearly identical
either way" .
You are the aircraft designer and manufacturer, put them the way the
designer and manufacturer would want them.
You, as the pilot, might want to be assured that the nuts and blots are
still properly together when doing your preflight without removing the
spinner to check (very messy in the rain or snow) . Therefore, ipso
facto, the bolts must go from front to back. That's the only way when
you check for bird's nests in the air intakes, a quick glance will
assure you that all nuts are still there with the proper three threads
showing..
The Aussies are great guys but things on the other side of the equator
may be reversed. Zenith are wonderful guys who are really trying hard
to please everyone about everything, but please don't get on them over
Jabiru engines, Jabiru FWF kits, or propellors. They are all products
of other firms who stand their own liability so they are the ones you
should stick with criticism if any.. But you as the designer and
manufacturer of your plane are the ultimate decider. Make an executive
decision.
Do you own Tony Bingelis books? He'll tell you the EAA standard way.

There Is NOT an annual for experimental. It is called a conditional
inspection and may be done by the builder holding a repairman's certificate
or an A&P. No IA required.

I put my prop bolts (2200) from the back to the front like Jabiru says, they
should know what's best for their product. Also the way the cowl openings
fit next to the ram air ducts there is not enough room for the nuts and up
to 3 threads on the back side without hitting the cowl.

Hal, You are incorrect. I am by profession a trial attorney, not an airplane
designer. I have on occasion altered the Zenith design when the common sense
you mentioned alerted me to the need, but not without touching base with ZAC. I
am not the manufacture, I am the builder. I have interpreted the plans and
photos I purchased from ZAC to assemble the airplane. Each of us has a
different interpretation so our planes look and will perform differently. On the
other
hand, attaching the prop is not design, it is mere physical mechanics and
there should be a best way just as there is a best torque setting for the bolts
and a best torque sequence pattern. As to "getting on" the folks at ZAC or Jab,
I think for the money I have spent I, or anybody, should reasonably expect an
answer concerning a significant difference in there products instructions.
This "No Comment" response I received today is what you should expect from a
politician not from someone I compensated in advance for his knowledge when I
purchased the plans and kit. Remember? Part of the sales pitch was expert
technical support. Lastly as to liability, having sued some of the largest insurance
companies in the nation through their clients I believe I understand liability
and negligence law pretty well. If ZAC or Jabiru believes those simple forms
we filled out will protect them from all liability they may need some more
advise. Or if you think that we, as builders of their kits, have no actionable
avenues in case of wrongful death or injury from gross negligence on their part
then you are mistaken. All that aside, all I want to do is complete the most
safe airplane possible, and my question to the Thread was 'is there a Best
Way.' I appreciate your indication that you employed the ZAC method. Was that
before Jab published a totally opposite method? What question would you have
reasonably have asked had you had to decide now, knowing that the engine
producer believes that ZAC is completely incorrect in method? Best regards and

The Zenith muffler is $825 US last time I checked. I have a muffler

use.
Contact me off-list and I can give you more details. I also have a
