He then put a key lock (similar to cabinet style) on the access door. You unlock the access door, push it in, reach in, and unlatch the canopy. Simple, clean, and not very heavy. I've used for up to six place aircraft with a couple additional lines on form. It is in an excel format so those of you that are smarter than me on the computer can do it automatically when numbers are inserted. Insure your Wt & Bal is correct, will save your plane, possibly you. Please send request to emaproducts@aol.com put Wt & Bal in subject line. might be a couple days getting it to you, sent over 30 out to another builders list a few months ago. It sounds like the rescuer would have to go find something to break open the canopy to get the pilot out. A person could burn to death in the time it takes to do that. My canopy release is on the outside and well marked for anyone to see with an arrow pointing the direction to turn it to open the canopy. Someday I will look for a method to lock the canopy from the outside with a key. I think maybe a tool box lock with a rotating hook and a eye on the inside to mate with the hook. > --> Zenith-List message posted by: Ron Butterfield > > > > A friend who built a Cozy had the latch handle inside, and cut a small > hand-sized door to access it. Uhh, it only locks on the outside? So, if you're in it, it's not locked. This was mounted behind the canopy latch in such a manner that when the lock arm was rotated and locked it prevented the canopy latch from rotating. I thought I had saved the article but am unable to locate it. I have the plans for the dual sticks (dated 01/04), which I'd like to install on my plane. My question regards the clearance between the bottom of the control column (6DS3-1) and the spar, when the column is moved full forward. The assembly instructions indicate that the bottom of the control columns (more precisely, the bolts welded to them) will hit the spar (page 2, section 2: www.zenithair.com\zodiac\xl\data\6-b-17.pdf ) when the control columns are in their full forward position. Since the CH601-HD spar is vertical (as opposed to the XL's, which is tilted forward), it would seem to me that there will be less room between the bottom of the control column (6DS3-1) and the spar, thus the possibility of interference. Can somebody tell me how much clearance I need in that area so I have proper deflection of the elevator? Or any other data point that will help me locate control connection 6DS2-2 in relation to the spar? I sent this question to ZAC, but I don't think they understood the question. See reply below: " You may want to consider moving 6V4-9 up close to the top edge of the flanged lightening hole on the spar. On drawing 6-DS-1 you will note that the torque tube is not centered on the XL center spar. " FYI, 6V4-9 is the HD's version of 6B17-6, the torque tube's front bearing.
