Try a pony type bar clamp with a purpose built swage of 1/4 flat steel tapered to the I.D. of the strut tube. The swage should be polished and radiused and used with oil. I think a minimum radius should be 1/16 inch, but a full 1/8 inch may prove better. If the tube wants to bow when clamping then fab a wooden jig to captivate it. The strut cap edges should be radiused to match the swage. While clamp pressing in the swage some persuasion to the outside of the tube may be required, this could be accomplished with a hardwood "dolly" and plastic mallet, with gentle loving taps. Be sure to leave a tang on the swage with a hole in it to help remove it from the strut. Maybe a 701 kit builder could peek at the end of a jury strut and inform us "economy" plans builders of the radius God intended. I adjust the light intensity with a potentiometer on the panel. I am putting two in my CH701. Even though I had seen "The better way". Robert Kube, of Montague, CA devised this "better way". He machined ends to fit into the ends of the jury tubes. The jury tubes did not need to be squeezed at all. If you know someone with a machine shop, this would be the way to go. Start with 60601 T6 bar stock the same diameter as the tube, turn down one end to fit into the jury tube about an inch. Machine the other side so that the sides are flat and the thickness is right for fitting into the attachment points. A hole is drilled through the jury strut with the piece in place. They are held in place with what looks like A5 rivets. (He also used aluminum streamlined struts from a RANS S12 I believe; he machined the fitting points for those as well). I have pictures I took when I went down there! If you want me to send them, just let me know and I will send a private email. Any 12v source will run it right off your power bus. A 12v dimmer can control it needed. I substituted .50" solid stock that I rounded on the ends and then ground flats to reduce it to 3/8's on the end where it was drilled. Looks much more professional, does not have to be sealed, and added only a small amount of weight, Walt Cannon Seattle WA ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 06:15:48 PM PST US From: "john H" Subject: Zenith-List: V-speeds Lets try again --> Zenith-List message posted by: "john H" Tried this once but it never showed up on the list. Hi List While Im waiting on my inspection I have started to make out my checklists. I was wondering what people were using for speeds-Vx, Vy, Va, rotation, decent, best glide, slips, final, etc. Perhaps speeds could be for gross wt. and one up lightly loaded. I know these numbers will vary by plane and engines but this info would be nice to have from various pilots and configurations. Perhaps Mark from the 601 site and Jon from the 701 site could organize and post this info. I have a 601HD with a Rotax 912UL. Anyone out there have numbers for this configuration? Thanks John
