HI guys...I too have been searching the web.
There was a rabbit diesel from 82 to 84 (I think) and the price was
right around $100.
I will send a note to ZAC to see if tey will confirm what the rad is
Thanks
Frank

Hi larry:
1986?? I show the Rabbit went out of production in '84. No matter, the
'86 Gulf diesel shows 2 different radiators available - with or without
A/C.
Parts Place shows new at $140 to $180 with used being about 1/2 that.
I hope this helps

Frank,
After checking for VW Rabbit Diesel engine in my auto parts store
search, I find
the year 1986 works for this radiator. ZAC would sell you another
probably
not
to expensive as I remember.

HI guys, How about changing the title to "radiator" or something else--
it messes up the thread and search engine when you discuss radiators
under the Matco brake discussion which is quite active--
Thanks

Interesting to note that the failure started at the rear of the tube
weld rather than at the front where one would expect.
Closer inspection revealed that the horizontal tube was being crushed
down rather than being bent backwards. I wonder if this is why the
latest generation pedals have a thicker wall thickness and no gussets.
Seems to me the gussets are going to spread this crushing force over a
longer length of the tube.
As soon as I can figure out why why I can't seem to weld this stuff
worth a darn...:)

Frank, on your leaky radiator. I had a leak in my '55 Chevy radiator and I
took it to a repair shop where they silver soldered it for ten bucks. Depending
the leak and where such repairs might be just the thing, Regards, Bill of

This is the part of the US FAA Sport Pilot regs I am least happy
about--no constant speed props. I've read and understand (somewhat)
the FAA's arguments on complexity of operation and maintenance, but
some of these new electronic props (the Airmaster is another example)
are so simple to operate I don't think that argument holds water.
Maintenance-wise, I doubt working with a constant-speed prop
is any more difficult than many other engine or wiring chores.
And the benefits in efficiency and safety (take-off performance
in particular) more than outweigh the slight increase in complexity.
I hope the FAA will be amenable to reconsidering this restriction
on Sport Pilot sometime in the future. Until then, if I want a
Sport-Pilot capable XL I have to forgo this wonderful technology :-(

Robert,
I believe recently, it was pointed out that one can have an inflight
adjustable prop on
the plane, but you need a label that says "Do not adjust the propellor in
flight" or words
to that effect. ;-) I think the inflight adjustable is the best approach to
optimizing the 601s.

Been down for two weeks with the worst case of the "flu" ever experienced by man.....
Cranked up the computer yesterday to find nearly a hundred "Paris Hilton" e-mails
from
places we haven't even thought of bombing yet. (But that's an idea)
Then there was this on-going discussion of Matco radiators for Diesel jackrabbits.......
Either I missed something, more than usual, or the medicine was worse than the
flu.
Thanks, Ron, for the info on what's actually being discussed! I was afraid high-speed
taxi tests on a 701 were going to require a brake fluid cooler.

Listers; Have a question. Am getting materials to scratch build the 601. How
many rivets do I need to order? Other than ZAC, is there a (cheaper) source for
the primo rivets that ZAC recpmmends? Appteciate any comments as to the ease
of the home depot wood brake; any plans sources? All help appreciated, thanks...
Found the CH601.org, will order aluminum per the listed materials...Assembling
tools, table, and ideas. Thanks.

Howdy
Have been a lurker for some time, currently own a Kolb Mark III but plan on building
a 701. When I bled the brakes on my M3 I didn't have the luxury of having
an official brake bleed device at my disposal, so improvised by filling a lever
type oil can with the appropriate fluid and pumped from the bottom. Had
to refill the small reservoir several times but worked like a charm.
Have been gleaning building tips for the 701 and really appreciate the knowledge
shared on this list.
Soon to be 701 builder

Buy ZAC rivets. They are about the cheapest thing on the whole d___
plane. Get on with the building and don't waste time shopping everything.
Another consideration. The DAR will never know the difference, You may
never know the difference, but ZAC knows that the same rivets from other
sources do not have the same tensil or shear strengt. They test all
their rivet shipments and will so state. Do you want to test all your
3rd party rivets for strength, or gamble with your life? I'd rather get
the plane built without the additional hassle.
