Re: 6-t-5-3
There are no problems with installing this at building time. I would think
about
installing your VOR antenna when building the Vertical section.
This is not mentioned in the plans but it will be much harder after you
close it up.
Be very precise with the placement of the 1/4" hinge mounting holes on this
part and on part 6-t-4-3. Off by one millimeter can limit the full swing of
the vertical stabilizer.

Hello list members.
For those who are interested in knowing how the aileron push rod problem ended,
they turned out to be 365 mm long on the lower rods, and 395 mm on the upper
rods.
Total length from bolt to bolt is: lower 400 mm, upper 430 mm.
Best wishes,
Johann G.

You know when you fly in a cessna or other certified aricraft how the fuel guages
never (seldom) work. This is the reason why I am leaning towards a capacitance
style fuel level sender. Solid state and no moving parts (as opposed to units
using floats) looks really enticing. I am tapping into the collective mind
to see if anyone has any experience with capacitance fuel level senders. What
are your thoughts? What type comes with a kit? How are they holding up with
use and if anyone bought anything other than the kit supplied sender unit,
could you please share your experience. Thank you all for your help with this.
I am looking at making a Jim Weir style unit but would be interested to know
if it is worth the effort.

David, over the years there has been much discussion of a variety of fuel
sender types both here and on the Aeroelectric list. There is a wealth of
information in the Matronics archives. Far to much to summarise here except
to note that an accurate fuel sender doesn't substitute for good preflight
planning and having a suitable alternative. I personally have the fuel
totalizer option for the EIS-6000 and the standard resistive float sensors
in the tank. I've flown enough old Pipers and Cessnas to know to take the
fuel gauge readings with a grain of salt and I plan accordingly.

Hi guys:
My instrument panel is installed and I plan to cut some round holes in it this
weekend since I have four round instruments on hand.
Soon I'd like to purchase a decent radio and a transponder, but I don't know a
lot about either. I'm asking the group if anybody can steer me toward a particular
dealer of used radios and avionics and even some advice on which brand/model
to purchase. I live near an air force base and a large commercial airport,
so I would like to be "seen" by the folks that read transponder channel 1200
while avoiding busy airspace.
Any advice or direction on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Just look around at what's for sale on there, and that will help you decide
what you are looking for.
There are some great deals on there.
I bought a nearly new ICOM A200 Radio, perfectly working King KT-76A

the new prices for the equivalent products.

Hi Scott
Not sure if this will be any help and I've never checked it out yet, ( a
long way from needing a radio) but wouldn't a aircraft wrecking or slavage
yard be a good spot to find used radios and electrical gear. We are running
un-certified planes and these radio's in these damaged aircraft can be
checked out by persons who are qualified. Just seems like a good place to
pick up such gear at a reasonable cost. I may be wrong here but I thought
I'd throw in my two cents.

To you listers who are EAA members ( and I hope that is everyone):
I haven't seen any feedback on the "Ford Partner Plan" which has been advertised
as open to EAA members ( see ads in Sport Aviation) so I'll offer my experience.
I purchased a Mazda using the plan, and it worked as advertised. I found
the price for the car and the options I wanted on the plan website, the dealer
accepted it with no haggling, the car was ordered and in due time delivered.
No problems, no BS from salesmen.
I have no connection with the automobile industry. I'm a just long time EAA member
(with a long time) 601HD project. I have previously used a union car-purchase
plan, but this saved me a few hundred bucks. FWIW. I hope no one takes
offense at this off-topic posting.

Hi David,
I have the Skysports capacitive fuel gauge and generally like it. I had
to mount mine on the side of the header tank because I don't have any
clearance between the top skin and the top of the tank. I think mine
would be more accurate if it was on the top and could be calibrated all
the way to the top of the tank. As it is, the probe is bent 90 degrees
and only reaches from 3/4 tank to the bottom. I get some errors when
the level is above the probe neck but it's ok from 3/4 to the bottom. I
would install it again but it's not magic.
Good luck
Ron
P S the Skyports folks are good to deal with. They talked me thru
which probe to buy and installation questions..

Only my personal observation, but I haven't seen any difference in my
Skyspors capacitive fuel gauge with 100LL or 93 octane mogas. Certainly
agree with good preflights, tho.

We just finished making the Matco supplied adjustments to the breake pedal
geometry in my 601 HDS. In addition to adding the intensifiers, we moved
the top mounting hole for the brake plunger from 65mmm to 32 mm. (i.e.closer
to the centerpoint.)
The brakes will now hold the plane at 1800 RPM runup with no problem and
will just creep at full rpm of 2800 on my 0-235 c2c. There is one further
mod we can make at the bottom of the pedal which would entail a bit of
maching which would move the barrel closer to the centerline even more. But
i don't think it's necessary at this time.

If you are getting 2800 on the ground (static) you need more pitch so you

If you are getting 2800 on the ground (static) you need more pitch so you
engine doesn't go over the red-line in the air. You will get more speed and
a quieter ride. Unless you have a controllable prop.
