Subject: | Hand flanging tool versus flanging dies |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: chrisoz@bmail.com.au
Hello listers,
up to now I have always been able to use a friends flanging dies to flange the
holes for ribs and spars.
As this is no longer possible I am wondering wether I should get a set made,
or wether those hand held flanging tools with the two little wheels are any
good.
Has anybody got any experience with the hand tool? It takes me about one
minute to flange a rib hole with the dies, how long would it take with the
tool, and what is the quality like?
Thanks,
Chris from Australia

Flew my Zodie 601HDS for the first time on April 10th. It flew well
with no rigging problems! Did have CHT issues with the Jabiru 3300 which
required pulling back power, remaining in the pattern and landing. Some
issues to sort out there, but a number of others have tackled this
previously so will discuss this with them. A great feeling to have the
first flight under my belt after 7 years of off and on building!

System problems continue to plague the Matronics Email server.
Incoming List mail was being rejected from about 12am Monday morning
until about 10am PDT Monday 4/11. It is unclear at this time what is
causing the system problem, but I am feverishly working on the issue.
I had to restore a list subscriptions database from an April 6th backup
because all of the list files had been truncated. I then reran all of
the subscribe/unsubscribe requests since the 6th. You may have just
received a subscribe/unsubscribe request and the FAQ if you've
subscribed/unsubscribed since the 6th.
At this time new posts are being processed and operation should be
considered normal.
More as information developes...

Greg,
I never heard back from you concerning the 601XL kit. Is it still available or
has it been sold?

Greg,
I'm very interested in purchasing your 601XL kit. I'd like to get a group of 5
builders together
in the Washington, DC area to build it and fly it.
Are there any interested parties in the Washington, DC area who would like to join
this group
project?

I'm still struggling with my audio system. My panel consists of a PS
Engineering audio panel with marker beacons;
With one ICOM A200 transceiver; and, one Garmin (Apollo) SL-30 IFR
Transceiver/VOR.
Intercom on the audio panel works great by itself but when connected to
the radios I get nothing.
I have checked interconnection wiring for the upper and lower Molex
connectors.
Also when power is on all lights are illuminated with low intensity
except the selected indicator light which is brighter than the others.
Interconnection was in accordance with the drawing provided by PS Eng'g.
The avionics shop at Aircraft-Spruce wasn't much help.
.
Are there are any radio technicians out there that can help?

Subject: | Elevator Hinge Lubrication |

I am just finishing up my elevator and installing the trim tab (601XL).
What lubrication should be applied to the hinge pin (elevator and trim tab) upon
installation?
Also, there was one doubler inside the elevator that was very difficult to install
and the illustration
showed the use of an angle drill. I was able to get past this one without that
tool, but in the long
run, should I invest in an angle drill? Will I use it several more times?

I am shopping for a Zen. 601XL. I'm a new subscriber, so I haven't learned
all the rules yet to advertise on Matronics. I would like to find a kit
under construction if possible, the price is not a major concideration, nor
the location. I'm located in the San Diego Ca. area, but will drive any-
where to pick up a kit. Thanks, Ken Schooley

ZAC says to use motor oil on the elevator hinge.
Yes, an angle drill is indespensible. You'll use it over and over. Get a
variety of bits for it.

Dean- I would suggest you do. I have used my 90 degree air drill many
times while building, especially on the fuselage. Good luck and have fun.
I sure did.

Are there required instruments that I have to have in
building a 601 XL? Where might I find a list of
everything required? I fly a Piper Cherokee now, and
am using it as a pattern for instrumentation and
lights. I am including a NAV radio, ELT, NAV lights,
landing and taxi lights, and hopefully the two Dynon
units, including navagational instrumentation and
engine instrumentation. And a hand held GPS. Do I
need a stall warning device? VOR?

Subject: | CH 801 Wings, Fuel and Tail kits For Sale. |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: <peapod_driver@yahoo.com>
Several months after I bought these kits from the
original buyer/builder, my department at work was
merged with another and my staff responsibility,
budget and troubles doubled; my time available to
build plummeted to zero. That was two years ago, and
the situation has not changed so, I am ready to face
the reality that I will not be able to fulfill my
dream of building this wonderful airplane.
So, I have for sale a new and in the crate, (untouched
except to inventory) 801 Wing kit ($6,245), Fuel kit
($1,225) and the complete Tail (rudder, stab &
elevator) kit ($1,750). The previous owner has built
the tail. On top of these costs you'd pay crating
charges, as well as, taxes so, there is over $10k
invested in this kit as it sits. I'm asking $7,000,
or best offer, for the whole shebang.
I lurk this list, as I have for the past three or four
years, and will continue to do so when I can find the
time but, the safest way to reach me is directly via
e-mail at peapod_driver@yahoo.com or by phone at
608-877-1294 between 6:00 and 9:00pm CST weekdays and
anytime weekends. If you really want to see pictures
of the crate, and whats in it, or the completed tail,
drop me a line and I'll send you the photos.
I wish I could join the ranks of the rest of you
fulfilling your dreams of building. I'm crushed that
I have to bail on this but I remain hopeful that
someday I'll have the opportunity again.
Thanks for your time and space. Jim
