How can you even measure 1/4 inch from one end to the other? I doubt very
much that this will make any difference at all to the aircraft's flyability.
As Chris Heinz has said, this is not an F14.... (or something like that)
For the definitve answer, you should call the factory.
Congrats on acheiving this milestone!

I am just starting on my CH 701 kit. How helpful are the Zenair
Newsletters? Are the CH701 back issues worth the $95.00? Am I missing out
on vital information by only using my plans, construction CD and this

Hi Dick,
I have used a 14 AH morotcycle battery for six years now and have been
very pleased. It turns the Subaru over easily and has never failed. I put
another one in after five years just because it was that old and they are
cheap. $31. Mine is mounted on the firewall and easy to service along with
light and little wire used. Empty weight with paint is 612 lbs, which
contributes to 1650 fpm+ initial climb on a cool day. Don Walker HDS TD

I use a 36 Amp Hr. sealed Lawn Tractor battery. $24.95 at auto store.
Weighs 24 Lbs. My Rotax 912 runs with the battery disconnected. I saw no
need for a backup. I plan on replacing it annually. Moving the 1 year old
to my lawn tractor.

I've used an 18AH sealed lead-acid battery
(http://www.batterymart.com/battery.mv?p=SLA-12V18) $29.95, 14 lbs for
the last six years (well, I replace it with a new one every two years).
For the record I also have a 3AH sealed lead-acid battery as a backup
for the electronic ignition on my Subaru engine.

A little twist is OK. The elevator trim tab is on one side and when
deflected it effectively puts a twist in the elevator anyway, at least on my
701.

Zenith uses the newsletter as a forum for publishing safety bulletins and
design updates. It's the only place they regularly publish this sort of
data. The newsletter also publishes construction tips by Zenith and others.
I've found it worth the subscription price. I don't know how useful the back
issues would be, the safety information in earlier issues should be
incorporated into the latest plans. The construction tips might be worth the
price of the back issues though.

Jeff,
I found that the back copies did not help in building, as past problem areas
were addressed by the current plans.
The news letter, as the source of info from the design authority is our best
way to keep up on ZAC advice.

I dunno it depends on the chemical agressiveness towards the seals.
To be honest there is no point in using a "High performance" brake fluid
as the brakes barely work anyway..It more like they persuade the A/C to
slow down rather than come to screeching halt.
To be honest I would use the right stuff usually available from your
local FBO, then there is no doubt.

I believe that it was Matco that recommended using Dexron III automatic
transmission fluid in their brakes. That is what I put in mine and have
had no problems at all. Stops when I need, and no adverse effects to the
Nylaflow brakelines, or leaks. The only problem I had was a poor weld on
the Matco axle, and it stops even faster without a wheel on the gear!
Mike Sinclair N701TD
Should be back in the air sometime late next week. Complete new right
wing (finishing paint right now), new Grove mainspring narrowed 6" to
better fit the taildragger configuration, new cowl to replace the
destroyed one, new oil cooler, radiator, new updated Matco axles, plus
numerous little tweaks that I was going to get around to during the 4
months that it was flyable. Now if my new prop that was going to be
shipped late last week will show up!!

Has anyone put a BRS system in their 701? I am considering it and I am in

make during fuselage construction that would save time/money over doing it
after the plane is built?
Thanks for any help.

It's the second time I've mention Mike Sinclair's name today, but he is Da Man
when it comes to the 701. He has a BRS in his airplane that looks like a real
nice installation. If he's busy re-building (like he has been lately) and you
don't hear from him on the forum, look him up on the Zenith Builder's list and
give him a shout. You can see the BRS canister in this photo:
