So here's the next problem with my stablizer....
ZAC sent me a pre-drilled front spar with the old 219mm measurement for 6t2-1 but
the stabilzer skin was sent with pre-drilled cutout holes at the new 233mm
measurement.
Drilling a new cutout channel for 6t2-1 is no big deal (I think) but now I have
6 unfilled holes in the stab skin. do I
a) have ZAC send a new skin?
b) fill the old pilot holes with A4 rivets and move on?
c) do nothing to the pilot holes and finish the stab?
Suggestions?

Hello:
The error seems to be on the ZAC side - since I'm too picky for my own good
I would ask for the proper skin, but this is not practical. Shipping will be
a fortune !!
I would fill the holes with A4's and move on. This area will be covered up
by the fuse and no one will see it.
Maybe some more experienced builders have another idea or two.

Hey Kevin,
I recommend a Roper Whitney hand punch kit about $70
. Made in USA. I have had one for years. A fellow 701
builder liked it so well he bought his own, a import
knock off, $20 ebay, huge disappointment. Aircraft
tool supply sells them, their pn# 45. HVAC supply
houses sell them also.

I bought two party tables (plastic tops) from Home Depot, screwed them to a pair
of 2x2s for alignment and shimmed the 8 legs with my old business cards until
my 4 foot carpenter level looked god and build my plane.
Get on with the plane, level within 1/1,000,000 is only required for Mach 12 aircraft.

Both Jabiru and Rotax suggest a 100 micron filter upstream of the
fuel pump. Any suggestions on where to buy one of these. I've tried a
WEB search for the Z15 suggested by Jab and have not found any. Also,
anyone running the Facet glass housing filter with replaceable element
shown in the Aircraft Spruce Catalog (p/n-804)? This may be a possibility.

I have a new Falcon Vertical Card Compass for sale. Asking $150.
Aircraft Spruce sells them for $190 (p/n 10-07400). Includes 14v lighting
and bracket for mounting on the glare shield. My compass mounting is in
the panel just above an IPAC moving map display. Compass works fine w/o
IPAC present, but IPAC causes too much electromagnetic for it to work
properly. Going to replace it with an old fashion whiskey compass and see
how that works out. I understand they are a little less sensitive to
electromagnetic interference.

Jeff,
The most important part of your table is twist. From one end set a level
down across the table and check the location of the bubble in the float. The
level should span the width of the
table. Move down the table and do this every 2 feet and hopefully the bubble
stays in the same area, if it moves gradually in the same direction there is
a slight twist that will be apparant in the finished wing or tail piece. Run
a string end to end on the table. If there is a dip in the middle, there
might be a tendancy for the skins to oilcan as you rivet them on.
I built my table very stiff and could not work with either one of these
problems that were found once the table settled onto the uneven basement floor
even with the 6 leg adjusters.
You will find during construction that the flight surfaces are never really
in contact directly with the table but with whatever you use to allow the
clecoes to clear the table. The Zenith manuals and in the Zenith workshop used
were square Iron or steel. What I am using and very sucessfully are 3 1/2"
square viynal posts used for fencing. Got them at lowes for 10 dollars each, 6'
long, very straight and very hard to bend. I cut them to the width of the
table
4' and set them where each rib is located on the wing. I removed the wing
skeleton and using the level and string shimmed each post at their ends level
and at the proper height using normal wood shims. I then used a drywall screw
thru the bottom inside of the post and screwed it down into the table thru
the shim to prevent the posts from moving. In effect the surface the wing sits
on is without twist and without a dip using level as a reference for these 6
points that the wing rests on.You will not have to move the posts throughout
the complete construction of the wing.
Just an idea for thought.
Brian

Hi, Chuck. You might take a look at the Summit Racing web site -
www.summitracing.com. They have a variety of filters that range from 10
microns to 100 microns. I'm using the G1516 60 micron filter, which has AN
fittings on each end. Prices range from about $10 to about $95.
Hope this helps.

To all Interested parties,
I have decided to sell my Zodiac CH 640 airplane as it is. I have come to the
realization that my time and finances are limited as to the projects I choose.
I currently own and fly a Cessna 172I and can not afford to build and maintain
the two aircraft. I have long range fuel tanks (2) -23 US Gallons. The
Kit consist of all airframe componets down to the tires and seatbelts etc,,,.
My cost are: $24,800.00 for complete kit including fuel systems; Additional
cost I paid are $1,736.00 sales tax; $900.00 long range fuel tanks; $2,000.00
tail components factory built ; $1,000.00 upgraded fueline (stratoflex SS
braided hoses and fittings) plus some tools. All of these items total $30,436.00.
I am asking for the cost of the kit only $24,800.00. Buyer must arrange to
pickup or ship. This airplane is an great cross country IFR capable platform.
Top Speed with an O-360 is 167mph; Cruise is 154 mph according to Zenair LTD
in Midland Ontario. Stall is 30mph with full flaps and 40 mph no flaps
The aircraft is in the following status:
1) The right wing is about 80% complete with the aileron bellcrank assembly,
control rod and the cables installed. Both left and right ailerons are assembled
but not installed.
2) The horizontalstabilizer/elevator and /vertical fin/rudder are factory
built and complete with wiring installed.
Digital pics can be sent to anyone wishing to have them.

Subject: | 601XL - Grove Gear, Wheels, Pants |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Dave VanLanen" <davevanlanen@sbcglobal.net>
I'm preparing to order the airframe kit within the next few weeks, so I can
pick it up when I go to the builder's workshop in August. ZAC confirmed
they can have it ready for me. I'm deciding which parts I want to exclude
from the kit, and order from other suppliers. I'm considering the
gun-drilled Grove gear, but I have a few questions for which I didn't find
adequate answers in the archives:
* Does ZAC approve of the use of the Grove gear?
* Are there plans for the required airframe mods to mount this gear,
and how complex are the mods?
* Is anyone flying an XL (tri-gear) with this gear, and if so, how did
it work out for you?
* Who should I order the wheels/brakes from - Grove or ZAC?
* Will the ZAC wheel pants fit with the Grove gear?
Also, is anyone using smaller wheels and/or more streamlined wheel pants on
their XL tri-gear? They look rather large compared to other aircraft e.g.
the RVs, and I would think a smaller set would provide weight reduction and
more speed.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hello all,
OK you, "CH701 plans/scratch builders", according to the STOL CH701 Materials list
from the Zenith web site, they are showing that (2) 4'x12' sheets of 0.025"
are needed. Well, I couldn't get everything to fit. I ended up with (3) 4'x12'
sheets and (1) 4'x'4 sheet. If you don't plan on building the fuel tanks, then
you can fit the components on the 4x4 into the fuel tank cutout area.
Let me know what you guys have come up with.
