When I look at so many of the 601 designs and how simple and dependable they are (which is why I purchased it ) and then I look at this canopy I got to wonder who really designed it. And the weird thing is the flip forward design is touted as the improvement over the side flip model. On the inside knob what I did was cut off most all of the shaft so I would not have it projecting so far into the cabin and re-drilled the hole. What I would also suggest to anyone is not to use the provided little pressure pin to attach the inside handle, rather use a bolt and nut or Carter pen because getting that factory pin out without removing the canopy is a trick and a half. If you can't consider this....I flew my 100HP HDS for the first time after 4 months with no flying at all, some taxi testing, and 45 minutes in the front seat of a 200HP Acroduster...It was the only thing I could find with a low wing (and a high wing) and a stick...Between my knees of course. It was a taildragger and of course I did not land it during the several approaches I made. Bottom line the HDS was the easiest plane I ever flew...Just drops like a rock if you cut the power..so had to keep a little on for landing. Take this for what its worth but if you get stuck you may end up deciding its not the end of the world when doing the first flight in your XL....Now insurance is a totally different mater...:) Frank Do not archive -----Original Message----- From: owner-zenith-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-zenith-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of JAPhillipsGA@aol.com Subject: Zenith-List: 601XL Builder Needs a Ride --> Zenith-List message posted by: JAPhillipsGA@aol.com Dear Thread Fellows, I am looking to beg someone to let me fly with them to get some more familiarity time in a XL.
