Hi Phil
I am helping Ray Lasnier who is building a 601HD in the UK
from a kit. He decided to build his as plans except he has fitted a front
hinged canopy for safety. A large number of planes are flying in US with no
problems. He has fitted a continental 0-200 as advised by PFA but now
wishes he had gone for the Rotax as the plane is rather heavy with this. He
hopes to be completed in next few weeks but time seems to pass quickley.
Will post performance once flying.
He has drawings for the forward opening canopy from ZAC I will get you the
drawing numbers fom Ray.
A4 rivet Avex 1604-0412
This is a 3.2mm diameterm 120 deg countersunk aluminium/steel blind rivet -
open style. Grip 2.4mm - 6.3mm
A5 rivet Avex 1604-0414
donot have detail to hand
If you search the web you should find a UK supplier if not I will ask Ray.
If you look in list archives you will find a lot of information on avex
rivits & wether you should or should not buy direct from ZAC

I used the bolt holes referred to. A 18" length of chain and a hydraulic
shop crane. A one man job.

I have my engine sitting on the floor under the engine hoist next to my
plane. Looking at the
912 manual, it says you can use straps around the intake manifolds to lift
it. I see 2 threaded holes on the top of the crankcase next to each other
that could be used for lifting also.
Any stories or advice on how they did it or what I should not do? Thanks
again.
Brian

Hi Greg,
Haven't heard from you re the latest mods to the motor and taxi
testing. How is it coming? Hope the vapor lock or gremlin has been
eliminated. I've had my share of scarey moments, but no engine outs.
Sounds like you found a goldmine for Corvair builders. Maybe that will
take a bit of pressure off WW for parts and make them available a lot
faster.
Give a holler and we will work out the stick time for you. I'ld rather
do it out of Lenora if that suits you.

I'm changing over to the TruTrak ADI, so I don't need
the new VSI that I bought from Aircraft Spruce.
Spruce lists it at $111.95 (part #10-05205), but I'll
let it go for $75.00 (includes shipping). It's brand
new, still in the sealed box. E-mail me off list if
interested.

Phil,
You might just consider doing a removable forward top skin if you're
going with the forward tilting
canopy. This will save you an immense amount of work and annual
inspection time on behalf of the
longeron to firewall engine mounts. I've got a page on the canopy and
one of the images posted here
shows the clips and u-nuts I used to do this. If you need more info,
just ask.

Hello, all!
I just got my June issue of Kitplanes Magazine, and lo and behold, there is
Larry McFarland's 601 panel in former RV-8'er Ken Balch's panel article!
Well done!
best, Cory
