I think Zenith would be happy to sell you a flap actuator - I could be wrong but....just an impression. Mark Townsend and I have removed electric seat motors from the seats of a Ford Explorer. Mark has more of the details. The motors are hardly used, clean and very strong and the screws are great - although only one has the requisite distance of travel. It was an easy adaptation to use this motor/screw arrangement. For a flap position indicator, we may use the Ray Allen system or you can buy a cheap float type fuel level sender and guage, cut off the float and use the potentiometer and lever arm to track flap actuator movement and then calibrate the guage with the actual flap positions. We are looking at putting limit switches on either end of travel Not what all scratchbuilders would do but it is one (very inexpensive) possibility. One scratchbuilder's 2 cents. I have been reading the thread for years as I built my XL and unfortunately never really paid much attention to insurance questions and answers. What did we ever finally decide was the best, cheapest, easiest insurance carrier for un-flown XLs ? Again forgive the come on. I was in Washington, DC some years ago and remember a street sign that said "LIVE NAKED GIRLS" as the come on. Wonder why they had to advertise that the girls were alive ? Was there a market for looking at something other that naked girls who were alive ? Anyway, anybody out there really happy with their insurance provider? If I buy a policy I will put in to the agent that you recommended them and you deserve a big, fat, discount on next year's premium! His english is almost nada, so he is not in the list. He is finishing his fuselage so... He wants to install a conection for the static side hose for the ALT and ASI instruments on the side of the fuselage like in the Cessnas, we dont have one in neither of our 701's . I know that is not needed, but he insist to install one. Any experience or comment in the best position to install this conection? If so, exactly what changes did you need to make to the fuselage to accept the gear? I would appreciate it if you could contact me off-list - I would like to understand the requirements before I commit to ordering the Grove gear. The airspeed was much too high as though the static port was being sucked on by the airstream. I'm now putting one at the pitot tube location on the strut. I'l let you know how that works out. I'm planning to use the grove gear - the weight savings seems particularly attractive. But which ZAC parts, which Grove parts, and/or alternative parts, and what airframe modifications are desirable? I think there are quite a few others seriously considering Grove gear too, so I would suggest any replies would be welcome and appreciated by many ON list. Do not archive. Hopefully, these will be out of the propwash.
