There are a few other small vendors but mostly targeting the RV world:
http://www.killacycle.com/Lights.htm
http://periheliondesign.com/ledlights.htm
I think this is what AS&S is selling:
http://www.airplanegear.com/skybright.htm
They also offer these but the position lights only come in 28 volts.

Hello Brad:
I see no problem with barrel-type connectors. How often do you plan on
replacing the elevator trim motor? As for me, not often ! Remember to leave
a
generous amount of slack in the cable to enable replacing the trim motor many
years from now.....
I question tinning the ends of the wire before drimping. If the proper size
barrel connector is used with a GOOD crimping tool, shouldn't this be all
that's needed? Is there a 'best practices' out there that I am not aware of ?

Thread Friends, the knife splice connectors are great. I used them for the
wing wires in the expectation of having to take the wings on and off a few
times. If you use them remember to use some the anti corrosion jell, regards,

It would be nice to know just what statistics are available regarding
the reliability of the Jabiru engines, particularly the 3300.
+++ Gee Howard, could you have biased your question to a slightly less extent?
It would be nice to have statistics on the reliability of Rotax engines. It
would be nice to have statistics on the reliability of Lycoming engines...of Subaru
conversions, about what Ralph Nader says of aircraft engines, etc. I have
240+ hours on mine. Fred Hulen has about 200 hours on his; Stan Challgren said
in a message last week that he has 170 hours. Ron DeWees has 77 hours on
one in a few months time. All of these engines are early serial numbers (078
and lower) and had to overcome the teething problems of all new engine-into-airframe
installations. Pete and Andy at USJabiru and SunCoast helped us and we,
in turn, added to their knowledge. The beneficiaries are the new customers
like yourself who just get to "bolt and go." Pay attention to CHTs and install
it like Pete or Andy or Jim tell you. Don't second guess what has proved to
work.
Of particular interest is the question of RF interference to the radios
and other instruments.
+++ It would be nice to have statistics on the background knowledge of the person
wiring the a/c. I have NO RF interference. Fred did and got rid of it with
a filter - but he has slight differences in wiring and engine information system
from what I run and the truth is that Fred can wire rings around me!
I plan to use a Jab 3300 in my CH701, but have begun to hear some dire
stories about the engines and the service from the factory.
+++ Ah, the dreaded DIRE STORIES! Where did you hear this? What were the sources?
Do they own or have personal experience with Jabs? Factory support and
US distributor support has been super since Jabiru got rid of the first id..ah,
gentleman, that distributed Jab products in this country. If you're pleased
with ZAC support you will continue to feel that way using Jabiru.

I can identify with the original author of this string. I have an NSI Subaru I
plan to use and have heard horror stories about it and stories of praise. It
would be nice if there were a reliable data source for the different engines
out there but obviously that is impractical. What I know from my other life,
you know the one where I have to earn enough to be an airplane builder/pilot,
is that a person that is disgruntled about something will tell a lot more people
about the issue than a person that is satisfied with something. Thus, you
will hear the malcontents speaking up allot more than the contents but it would
be nice to hear from other NSI users about their experiences positive and negative.

Hello Howard,
I highly recommend that you join the Jabiru list at
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/jabiruengines/>. You'll find that the major
Jabiru dealers are very active participants in the list and are always eager
to help resolve any issue (even if you did not buy an engine from them).
I've been a member of the Jabiru list for almost two years and am not aware
of any 'dire stories' originating from Jabiru owners. I am aware of 'dire
stories' from owners of other engine brands though...

If you are looking for a good set of crimpers there are a couple on
ebay right now.
These are the same kind I use and they are cheaper than what I payed
for mine
These are made for the pidg type barrel crimp terminals which are
nylon and not junky vinyl. They have a diamond pattern inside which
presses into the wires better when crimped. Also they are crimped
in two places, once on the wire and one on the insulation for strain
relief.

I am off to the paint store. I think I remember discussion about how
much paint is required for the XL and I believe it was about 1 gal
primer and 1 gal of finish per coat. Does that sound about right for a
solid color paint scheme? Thanks in advance. Jack

just to keep balance here, I don't think solder should be used. It can
create a weak spot that will break if it gets flexed under vibration. I've
seen a lot of solder joints break, it makes it brittle at the solder/wire
joint. I went with 'lectric Bob's method of only mil wire with AMP PIDG
(double crimp) connectors and a proper crimper. One of the benefits of mil
wire (other than tefzel insulation, i.e. non-PVC) is higher strand count for
better flexibility. That flexibility goes away when it gets soldered. If
you do solder, pay special attention to strain relief (but I don't think
there's any need for solder anywhere). With good crimpers and PIDG
terminals and butt splices, it's quicker, easier and plenty secure.

After building my right outboard slat THEN trying to make the fiberglass tip fit,
I find it, the tip, seems to be too small. The bend radius of the bottom of
the tip does not conform to the bend radius of the bottom skin of the slat.
The rest of the slat looks fine. Anyone else run into this before I crawl back
to ZAC??
Thanks in advance...

I did almost the same thing as Larry. For the same reason. To get to

I used small square tubing to make a frame then screwed the panel to it.

The LED's are very bright. I am useing them on my new plane.
I am putting 2 greens and 2 reds in each wing tip. One points forward
and one points out. That covers the area and is way brighter than the
"aircraft" lights on my Zenith. A white one in the tail.
Also 2 strobes in each wing.
Total about $150
Thanks

Craig,
I used an idea from the Aeroelectric Website and used male and female 9 pin D-Sub
miniature computer connectors from Radio Shack; They have proven to work beautifully
in terms of installation and ease of access. No soldering, so no brittle
joints, crimp style connections and then I shrunk wrapped the ends and
for added measure of waterproofing and strain relief I used "GOOP" on the ends
to seal things up. Works like a charm and that AEROELECTRIC WEBSITE is an excellent
source for neat ideas.
