Hi all. I'd like to seal around the fuel fillers on the wings of my 701.
Does anyone know of a fuel-resistant but paintable sealant for such use?
Thanks

Subject: | 601XL Plans and Zenith Rivet Puller For Sale |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Jack K. Holley" <jkholley@comcast.net>
I have a set of 601XL plans for sale. They are the January 2003 revision
prints with a construction manual. I do not have the revised plans CD. The
plans have an original serial number from Zenith. Also for sale is a
pneumatic rivet puller from Zenith - with the heads modified for the Zenith
rivet technique.
I purchased these a little over a year ago with the intention of building a
601XL. However, the family would prefer to have a boat so we all can enjoy
the lake we live at - and entertain friends and family. Can't do that in a
2-seat airplane! So, since it will be a while before I will be ready to
build, I have decided to sell the plans.
I thought I'd offer these to the list first before listing them on eBay.
I'll accept any reasonable offer.
If you're interested, please contact me at jkholley@comcast.net. Thanks!

Hey List,
Finally(!) finished the tailfeathers and now moving on to the flaps.
Does anyone recall what the flap leading edge total width is/was? the trailing
edge is given as 2080mm. but no leading edge width is listed on the plans. The
sum total width I achieved by adding all the rib stations was 1983mm; but I
would like to hear that confirmed before cutting this really big piece of sheet
metal.
Thanks

Dear Thread Friends, My 3300 oil filter seal seeps a little oil. Notice after
long full power runs where the oil pressure gets up to around 90. Do I need
thinner oil or is the filter O-ring defective? Also where can we purchase the
Z386 filter ? Checked Avanced Auto and they had no clue. Best regards, Bill of

C-IDUS had her maiden flight this morning @ 8:36 AM.
I did 1 circuit around the airport and came back because of cooling
problems. Oil temps seem to be stable @ 228 degrees but the coolant
overheated and cut short the flight. Some changes will have to be
made with both rad inlets to see if the temps come down.
Other than that she flew very nice. I hit 90Mph @ 4500RPM but the
airspeed has not been verified or calibrated yet, that will come
later once I solve the cooling problem.

Hi Bill,
I have never had your oil seepage problem but can help you with the oil
filter. I use a Pure 14476 that costs about $4 at auto stores. It fits
almost all older Toyota vehicles and comes in a standard and a premium
model that is only a buck or two more.
One thing to keep in mind on oil leaks around the filter is that the
Jab's oil circulation pressurizes the filter before going to the
regulator. A small leak that would be no problem at 30 # pressure might
blow a lot at 75#. I don't know of any other aircraft motor that
pressuruzes the filter. Seems like a potential safety issue, but just
be careful to use a good filter and tighten it correctly. Remember that
the "doughnut" adapter under the oil filter also has an O ring that
could be loose. Make sure it's tightened into the block securely, too.
I use a trick I have read about to safety the filter against
unscrewing-. take a hose clamp and secure it around the filter
somewhere near the base of the filter. Then you can use safety wire
around the screw and back to the the pressure sender or inlet or outlet
pipes to keep it from backing out.
Good luck

Congratulations Trevor!
Very pleased to see you in the air. You could back thru this cooling
problem by adding a small pair of switch controlled fans to pull the air
through
and then, when in cruise, find the rpms that permit you to switch them
off and
work your various cooling modifications to eliminate the need for the fans.
Cooling problems often require very subtle solutions.
Fly safe,

Subject: | Flap actuator... |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: VideoFlyer@aol.com
Hi...
Since posting to the list about the DC linear actuators from Firgelli,
http://www.firgelliauto.com/index.htm
I have purchased one. It arrived within a few days. I think it will work
fine. I purchased the 3 inch standard force one....since that's about how much
stroke I need. The speed is perfect. The unit is about 7 inches long so I
needed to fabricate a bracket since I needed about 15 inches to reach the arm.
I have pics if you're interested.
However, if you're gonna buy one of these, I have some suggestions. The
reason I went with the standard force was to get the one with the 3 inch stroke.
When I got the unit, of course I had to take it apart to see how it works.
The limit switches inside can be moved pretty easily...just a couple of solder
connections....move the switch to a new position..and solder it back in. It
would be very easy to take the 6-inch or 9-inch stroke unit..and give it an
effective stroke of 3 inches, simply by moving the internal limit switches. (Of
course, doing so will probably void any warranty, but I don't think they come
with a warranty anyway.) What you will have then, is a unit that is long
enough that you don't need to build a bracket...you can make it fit by adjusting
the limit switches to the position that gives you the proper "overall"
length...and also the correct amount of "stroke." The high force ones are the
same
price as the standard force. I would get the high force one...(you can never
have too much power.)
So if I had to do it over again, I would get the 9 inch high force actuator,
adjust the internal limit switches to give me the correct length and the
stroke that I need. No bracket to make.
Clear as mud?
Let me know if you have questions. I think the actuators will work great.
And the price is right.

Hi Listers
My 601 is getting closer to that time when painting is getting more consideration.
I was at a local boat store recently and they mentioned a new paint called
"Perfection". Sounded a bit like advertising hype at first, but the finish on
a sample
surface certainly looked attractive and they claimed a "spray quality" finish by
using a
roller. They also emphasise that good cover should be achieveable with just two
coats
and the finish is high gloss. "Perfection" is a two-part polyurethane product:
see
www.yachtpaint.com/Images/22_22077.pdf
I would be very interested in receiving any comments from Listers on suitability
as this
seems to be an effective and hardwearing paint, not requiring spray-gear or too
much
expertise to apply.

I used their one part polyurethane paint called Brightside on my Zodiac.
Most people who have seen it don't realize that it was applied with a
roller until I tell them. Details of the process are at
