As for rudder pedals the XL has more room and the location of the pedals can be adjusted to suit the pilot. I have heard of others that are your height not having any problems in the 601. I was down there today (Friday). The Zenith factory has a small booth in the LSA area. There's a 701 on display. Apparently their 601XL got stuck in SoCal somehow, but they found one that a builder had flown in and it's on display as well. According to the schedule Zenith is doing a 1-hour forum on their planes at 10:00AM, and a 2-hour metal building workshop at 2:00PM (both Saturday). Now on to a mostly unrelated question: I was happy to see Zenith there, but disappointed that the factory 601XL was not present. The reason: I'm a long 6'6", and was hoping I could sit in the XL to see if it would fit. (Because the XL there isn't owned by the company and the owner wasn't around, the factory guys were understandably reluctant to let folks sit in it.) However, the factory guys did say the accumulated wisdom on this list was impressive and that I should ask here. Soooo.....any really tall guys here, and if so, how's the legroom and headroom? And, what adjustment range is there for the rudder pedals? (Looking at the scale drawings I'm presuming the seat back is fixed and non-moveable.) Thanks. > Time: 10:44:59 AM PST US > From: Richard Vetterli > Subject: Zenith-List: Golden West > > --> Zenith-List message posted by: Richard Vetterli > > Any Zodiacs going to the Golden West Fly-in this > weekend? > Rich Vetterli > N56DV (reserved) > do not archive > -- Bob Johnson ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 06:20:10 AM PST US From: JAPhillipsGA@AOL.COM Subject: Re: Zenith-List: Re: Golden West --> Zenith-List message posted by: JAPhillipsGA@aol.com Rich or Bob ? The zac rudder pedals have a tall guy option meaning you can push them forward a ways. Not have plans in hand so I can't say exactly how far. I chose the normal setting for my 68 inches. My buddy Roy, at 6,4, fits inside and has good pedal action even at the normal settings, FWIW, Bill ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 07:12:01 AM PST US From: Larry McFarland Subject: Re: Zenith-List: Re: Golden West --> Zenith-List message posted by: Larry McFarland Robert, Aside from cushion depth on the seat, there's also some allowance for placement of the seat back a distance rearward of up to something like 3" with modification of the baggage shelf, etc. This would help quite a lot. At 6'-6" you should consult with the factory on these points. But, it is always best to hear direct from the source, so I agree that an official description of the changes and the implications for those of us with builds underway would be helpful. I started about 2 years ago with kit components and am a s l o w builder so have some concern about compatibility of future sections I buy. I'm going to have to retire to get this done with any alacrity. I have just been on the Zenith website and downloaded the April 2005 drawing updates. I'm amazed at the level of change with fuselage skins going from .016" to 025" and some major changes to the empennage. Why are these changes being made (E-SLA, S-LSA certification)? or are 2005 model year? I can accept that there is product development but think we should have some clarification from Zenith as I'm uncertain if changes are for safety or just design progression. Whilst I could get a new set of drawings for $75 (about $110 to get them to England) what a waste of redundant material. If only minor changes are made then it is easy to amend you drawings but in this instance drawings have been redrawn with additional parts detailed, in this case Zenith should post these (say in pdf) on the builders website, rather than sell you a new set of drawings I'm somewhat confused where to go next!! Can anyone help?
