Zenith-List Usage Guidelines
******************************************************************************
The following details the official Usage Guidelines for the Zenith-List.
You are encouraged to read it carefully, and to abide by the rules therein.
Failure to use the Zenith-List in the manner described below may result
in the removal of the subscribers from the List.
Zenith-List Policy Statement
The purpose of the Zenith-List is to provide a forum of discussion for
things related to this particular discussion group. The List's goals
are to serve as an information resource to its members; to deliver
high-quality content; to provide moral support; to foster camaraderie
among its members; and to support safe operation. Reaching these goals
requires the participation and cooperation of each and every member of
the List. To this end, the following guidelines have been established:
- Please keep all posts related to the List at some level. Do not submit
posts concerning computer viruses, urban legends, random humor, long
lost buddies' phone numbers, etc. etc.
- THINK carefully before you write. Ask yourself if your post will be
relevant to everyone. If you have to wonder about that, DON'T send it.
- Remember that your post will be included for posterity in an archive
that is growing in size at an extraordinary rate. Try to be concise and
terse in your posts. Avoid overly wordy and lengthy posts and
responses.
- Keep your signature brief. Please include your name, email address,
aircraft type/tail number, and geographic location. A short line
about where you are in the building process is also nice. Avoid
bulky signatures with character graphics; they consume unnecessary
space in the archive.
- DON'T post requests to the List for information when that info is
easily obtainable from other widely available sources. Consult the
web page or FAQ first.
- If you want to respond to a post, DO keep the "Subject:" line of
your response the same as that of the original post. This makes it
easy to find threads in the archive.
- When responding, NEVER quote the *entire* original post in your
response. DO use lines from the original post to help "tune in" the
reader to the topic at hand, but be selective. The impact that
quoting the entire original post has on the size of the archive
can not be overstated!
- When the poster asks you to respond to him/her personally, DO NOT
then go ahead and reply to the List. Be aware that clicking the
"reply" button on your mail package does not necessarily send your
response to the original poster. You might have to actively address
your response with the original poster's email address.
- DO NOT use the List to respond to a post unless you have something
to add that is relevant and has a broad appeal. "Way to go!", "I
agree", and "Congratulations" are all responses that are better sent
to the original poster directly, rather than to the List at large.
- When responding to others' posts, avoid the feeling that you need to
comment on every last point in their posts, unless you can truly
contribute something valuable.
- Feel free to disagree with other viewpoints, BUT keep your tone
polite and respectful. Don't make snide comments, personally attack
other listers, or take the moral high ground on an obviously
controversial issue. This will only cause a pointless debate that
will hurt feelings, waste bandwidth and resolve nothing.

It's hot in Alabama too. I took my drawings to Office Depot and had a
working copy made and stored my original copy in a cool dry place. My
garage was built in 1931 and is 10x20 with no ceiling, just the rafters, 1x
decking and barrel tile, hot in summer and cold in winter (well relatively
cold in winter).
I've been working on my kit since December,2004 and still in a learning mode
although it's getting a little easier. What would I have done without the
Matronics Zenith-List? It has really helped. Even comments by low-wingers
are helpful :-)

sweating on the plans is making it hard to read; also wrinkles the

Hello Tommy:
You're not alone; my garage is very similar but I installed plywood across
the ceiling joists and use the attic to store parts as I complete them. Right
now the collection holds a rudder, stabilizer, and flaps.
After making a working copy of my plans, I got two 11x17 loose-leaf binders
(with the rings on the 11" side) from _www.11x17.com_ (http://www.11x17.com)
and it was a good decision. The plans are still in good shape, and my
archive copy is perfect. Look for p/n _1117-1SDV-BP_
(http://www.11x17.com/Product.htm?ProductID=57)
Office Depot wanted $50/binder - I told them they were insane!

Hi Folks I ran into this on E-Bay, after discussion with the owner I
found out that I cannot use them in a 601XL but they would be perfect
for the HD/HDS.
Item # 5594516873
Description
these are brand new rotational molded polyethelyne 10 gal tanks
originally made for ultralight aircraft application. found these work
very well as fuel tanks for the zodiac 601 hd wings. 2 bottom fittings,
both 3/8" pipe thread, and 10/32 thread screw inserts along aft
perimeter of tanks for mounting options. Tanks weigh 6lbs each, and
sold as a pair, and will ship in 1 box as a pair.
The seller informed me that he has 6 of these tanks. Hope this helps
someone!!

I went to KINKOS and had them put poster board stock on front and back.
Remove the staples. Then spiral bind the top. That way the plans lay flat
on the table all the time. It works well, better than a three
binder, and costs $4.00 total.

Subject: | Matco Wheels circa 1999 - hex bolts |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Jeff Davidson" <jeffrey_davidson@earthlink.net>
Well folks I=92m finally making great progress! I=92m currently putting the
tires and tubes on the Matco wheels. I=92m looking forward to seeing it stand
on its own. I bought my wheels from ZAC in August 1999 as part of a Gears
and Wheels component kit. It seems that the current available bolts for
these wheels are AN4s =96 =BC inch in diameter =96 per Matco. My wheel halves
came bolted together but with AN5 bolts. The bolts have a Hex head for an
Allen wrench. The nut is a fiber lock nut. Both are =BD inch. The problem
is that I=92ve tried many, many sockets, but I can=92t get a =BD inch socket into
the recessed hole to grab the lock nut. This may be an old problem. At
least one post in the archives mentions multiple types of Matco wheels.
Evidently the Matco assets were sold in 2000 so this might pre-date the
current company. Does any of this ring a bell with anyone? Thanks =85

I complained yesterday about it being hot in my shop (and it is) but I do have
a portable swamp cooler that works great. I roll it to where I am working and
it blasts me with 80 degree air. I am located in the Central Valley of CA (Turlock)
where the summers are long and hot but not like Tucson or Phoenix.
Outside of the heat I am fortunate to have a 30 X 50 metal uninsulated shop to
work in. I built the shop a few years ago before the price of steel and concrete
went sky high. There were lots of bolts, rivets and large sheets of metal
in that project also. Outside of the shop is a 900 foot runway that I currently
use for my TEAM AirBike and I suspect the runway will do just fine for the
701. I assume the 701 with a 912 will not be more noisy than a two cycle
ultralight.

Jeff,
I purchased my Matco wheels at approx the same time period. I had to put my
socket in a lathe
and turn down the sockets outside diameter in order to get it to fit,
nothing else would work.

Sounds like you need a "thin-wall" socket. The guys in the Snap-On truck
might have it, but I had the same problem with swing-arm bolts & locknuts on
the BMW motorcycle. 20 minutes later with some very careful grinding ( I did
not have access to a lathe at the time) came a usable tool.
Try it

Take a look at some 1/4 inch drive sockets. Many have thin walls because
they are not designed for high torque.

Dan,
Probably correct about the noise with the 912 and I am sure you are correct
about the runway. I may be able to blade a 350' strip on my property. Bet
the county will object. May try anyway. After the airplane is flying and I
am well versed and practiced in its ability, I intend to at least do a
couple of landings and takeoffs on my property. We shall see. Is Turlock
anywhere near Fresno, Bakersfield or NAS Lamoore?

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I suspect that I'll have to turn down
the outside diameter of a socket like Kelly did. I can say that a Craftsman
quarter inch drive half inch deep socket will not fit. It is good to know
the problem is not unique!

I seperated each group of dwgs. IE rudder, fuselage, controls, ect. installed
a binder clip on top of dwgs, and put a clear laminate film over each plan.
they have stood up to much abuse in my shop.
Dig in and start building!
