To top it off I have just received a job offer that will be forcing me to relocate from Phoenix, Arizona to San Diego, California. Because of this, and the speed with which all of this is going to happen, I am offering up my 90% completed 601-hds, WITH Subaru EA-81 engine, full firewall forward package (cowl, warp drive 3 blade prop), full VFR instrumentation, comm, wheel pants, wing tanks and header, strobes, intercom, GPS, landing and taxi lights, aileron and elevator trim, mac grips, dual battery system and much more for the crazy price of $12,000 firm. I easily have $30,000 invested in this plane but I do not want to leave this project behind for my wife to deal with after I move. She will have enough to do moving the rest of our household to California and taking care of our kids! I can give a couple of references for builders who are familiar with my work, you can be assured the build quality is good, but the catch to this crazy deal is it has to be done fast, preferably before I move to San Diego on August 7th. This plane has enough left to do where someone who wants a taste of building won't be disapointed, but all major components are done. Aside from detail work, paint and interior the only major item remaining is the canopy. The canopy is also the only additional piece that would need to be purchased by a potential buyer. I had tried doing a modification that did not work out and I damaged the canopy in the process. I will not negotiate the $12,000 price and I will not consider any funky funding. This is a cash deal only, and an amazing one at that. I can help arrange for transportation but it is solely the responsibility of the buyer to get the plane from my hangar at KDVT to your location. First offer of 12K get's it. I am not interested in a bidding war for a few hundred bucks. I will take a 25% deposit (not refundable on a backout, so be serious) on a legitimate offer if it will take someone a little while to get their finances together. I will be traveling back and forth to Phoenix for a few months so we can arrange for a pickup after the Aug. 7 date I noted above. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please contact me off list only at 602-628-7000 or stefree@qwest.net. It might sound self serving, but this really is the deal of the day. The engine alone is worth $7,000, not to mention the airframe! Thanks guys. It breaks my heart to do this, but my life priorities have changed. According to their web site, they even make home delivery for free to orders over $100. If I get the material rolled it will fit in the back seat of my car and I could bring some of it the same day of the purchase. My question is, how difficult it is to make it flat after it have been rolled, it would be easier for me to store it flat. Being a taildragger I was able to mount my Rotax radiator between the rear of the engine and the firewall. It is slanted 25 degrees to the front to allow proper coolant flow. My oil cooler is mounted on the nose of the engine. The last time I flew (two days ago) the surface OAT was 94 degrees. 86 degrees at 3,000 MSL. Max temps on climb out to 5,000' (to get cool) 220 degrees coolant and 215 degrees oil I changed to Evans after 20 hours - no change in temps but nice to know the Evans won't boil til 300 degrees. I can't help you too much if yours is a nose dragger but I'll gladly send you some pics off group. Make sure the aluminum you buy has the mill numbers on it as well as the 6061-T6 stamped on it. I bought a half sheet from a fairly local place to redo a damaged wing nose skin. The material had no markings at all on it but I was assured by the guy in the office behind the computer that it was 6061-T6, afterall he looked it up on his computer stock tracker. I made the skin and match drilled all the holes. It did seem a little different when cutting it which got me wondering about it again. Finally it bothered me enough I tested a piece by cutting a strip 2 inches wide and bending it between 2 fingers. This stuff bent right over back on itself. The 6061-T6 piece I tried it with would not bend like this at all. I got some of the proper stuff and redid it again. Jim Pollard Merlin Ont
